Make the picture > put it into data folder > name it whatever you want as long as it has the "bk" prefix.

Just change the original maps to your own.
Make the picture? (You mean to export it?)

EDIT: What if I want to use some original maps?

Just make the background, save it in the data folder and save it as a .bmp file with "bk" in front of the name.
You can set the background to a map by opening said map, press map and then properties. The rest should be obvious.
Don't forget that setting scroll type to scroll type 4 will make hide the background, so don't forget to change that if it's set on 4.

Also, have you actually tried installing Java?

To clear things up; my question isn't "How do I make a completely new background and put it in a map". My question is "How do I make backgrounds for new maps work?"

VB if I remember correctly, using the "copy" action instead of "new" will let you duplicate a map with the background intact. Then you just gotta edit the map to your liking

I've got another quick question. How do I make it so if you drown in a room, you don't die? I want to make it read other scripts like after drowning it fades in and another character says he fished you out or something.

First, set a flag to indicate that you don't want to die when you drown. Then open up the global script Head.tsc, and go to event #0041. Set a flag jump so that when your flag is set, it will do something different from what normally happens when you drown, such as fading out and transitioning to another room for a cutscene.

EDIT: It doesn't work. Where do I set the event to jump to? The map's script or the Head TSC script?

EDIT: I figured out it was in Head TSC. But when I do a <TRA command to a specific room you can't see the player character at all and you can't move.

Use <SMC, that's what it's there for.

I made a clone map of Mimiga Village, but the camera doesn't follow the player. I tried every scroll type.
