Yes, I don't want to cannibalise any of the old maps (my maps start from 095).

The maximum amount of maps you can have is something like 127 (don't ever try to make more), but even if you don't have a lot of maps it's recommended to erase existing maps rather than add new ones.

Go to the map named U - Kings (no.72 I think) and change the bk.

the title screen map is stored like a normal map in the map listing.

 

Ignore Bombchu, he has the right idea but is wrong. Changing the background of the title screen requires ASM. I can't find the hack for you right now, but it's one of the better known ones. Someone else should be able to help

 

Oh, really, Duncan? I believe that in Haunted House Story I just changed the bkFile of the map. Are you sure that it does require ASM?

As someone who has personally had to use the title screen hack to put in a custom background I can confirm that you do in fact need to use asm

 

It seems there's a bit of a communication flaw here.

Bramblestar, please specify. Are you wanting to change the background of the room where it says "Studio Pixel presents..."? Or are you wanting to change the background on the main menu where you select "New" or "Load"? I'd assume the latter, but your terminology of "title screen" is better applied to the former. If you're talking the title screen which is shown before you're taken to the main menu, Bombchu and Randolf are right. If you're talking the main menu, then Dunc and MagicDoors are right.

 

Oh, hellish hell, I actually confused title screen with the intro screen. Sorry for misinformation.

 

I meant the "New" "Load" Menu. I know how to edit the "Studio Pixel presents..." title screen. Sorry for the confusion.

 

Heh, heh. For that you will require ASM. Not a hard hack, but it's not lying anywhere, I think. Maybe you can find it in Open Source hacks by Noxid.

 

There's one called title screen hack in there, but I think it's the three-save hack.

He's refering to the fact that many of us weren't members on here yet. It was made in 2005 iirc since Cave Story was released around then, but since I never saw the old forums, I can't tell you if it was specifically devoted to CS, so it could've been here longer. This specific forum is from late 2009, or early 2010 I think. (Show off your lurking skills Polaris)
