Trope is, um, standartized plot device. For instance, Mute Protagonist (for example Quote) is a trope, because we see that in every other game.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, the proof that darkness exists...

the abadoned house in the Sand Zone, where one of the dogs are hiding (the one where you can see six of the tiles, and the rest is darkness).

I hope this helps reviving the discussion.

Oh, and if the Yamashita Farm was on the outside of the island, the water puddle with the Life Capsule would stream off. And there's no waterfall there or so, so... evidently, the water stays in place.

When Yal mentioned the Abandoned House, that brought my mind back to my first memory of the place...
...And I remembered how random objects were still visible... {Bits of sand, the Dog, Quote, Croc, etc.}

One random thought that popped into my mind was that, maybe Darkness and Light work backwards in Cave Story's world?
As in, Darkness chases away Light, instead of the other way around...
It'd explain the complete lack of light fixtures, because they'd only make Darkness O.o;

It's because the room isn't dark, it's just painted black.

Okaaaaaay, so the room is painted black in a very confusing manner.

Almost all places in CS are made by blocks.
Have you ever seen such some "natural" caves?
The most reasonable explaination is that those places are artificial.
And most of those blocks contained light magic which was from the creator of the island.
