It's ok, i guess its one mistake iwont make again next time.

But i'll need to edit TSC's at some point somehow. If i try
and load any script it seemed to crash CE. Sue loaded the
main scripts but i dont know how to load the stage specific
ones.

Again dont stress over my losing the hack, i'm just learning
so hopefully i can do much better than i did then.

Sorry, I don't think sixtysecond's realised how stuck you were.

You probably have the files for cave story set to read only. Unset this, or choose the option in Cave Editor which unsets read only.

TSC is the script language that the body of cave story works on.

Thanks for your help. I wasnt really sure what you meant by finding it in the TSC. Iwent to the data/stage/ folder and opened up the "cave.tsc" in wordpad but that thing you mentioned isnt there. I'm probably doing somethign wrong.

I don't use CE much, so I'm pretty much going off by memory, but when you chose what map you want to edit, I think there's a button that says something like "Edit Script" That's what you're looking for in regards to finding the tsc.

I think you forgot to move the second entity that was there when you were editing the map. It's pretty vague without more information about it.

You can rescue it if you want, it's not that hard. All that you'll lose is any changes regarding to background settings (Or assembly, but I know you haven't done that yet). But if you don't really care about it, you can start again.

Thanks i've changed the read only option. In the meantime i've been trying to get my head around TSC. I found a TXT/TSC encoder/decoder on the main site and i'm reading the code and visualising what happens in game.

I think that i was hasty in my first attempt really, and i have a more organised set of directories now. Taking my time, i can make a mroe realistic and enjoyable attempt. But it would be nice if i could get those maps back.

Replace your corrupted doukutsu.exe with a fresh copy doukutsu.exe from a vanilla cave story installation. You'll have to reset background info, but map data isn't stored in it, so It should still be safe. From there choose if you're going to use sue's workshop or cave editor, since you don't want this to happen again (Really, just choose if you're going to use CE or not, CE can work off a sue's modified exe, but not the other way around)

Check the properties of the "doukutsu" folder so that "read-only" is not applied. When it asks whether or not to do this to subfolders and files, click yes.

Is there a program that transfers MP3s to ORGs?

Mp3s are formatted very differently from orgs, that are arranged more like a midi, so there is no way to convert an mp3 into an orgi. I do believe that there is a way to change the music file type that cavestory accepts, but I personally do not know how to do it (perhaps one of our senior assembly hackers could help?).

It's got white dots in the corners like in PrtWeed. So yes, I did it right! Woohoo!

You're doing this:
Code:
MOV [49E6D0], DWORD 60

But you should do this:
Code:
MOV DWORD [49E6D0], 60

Yeah, I realize that I screwed that up in the guide. Alternatively, you can download OllyDbg version 2.00 instead of 1.10, so it doesn't matter where you put the DWORD. I'll be fixing it soon.

As long as you put the DWORD statement before the first square bracket "[", you should be fine.
