Chako is purple because when Mimiga females mature their coats develop pigment.

I... really like this theory. That grown up mimiga females come in a rainbow of colors and all mimiga males are white, I mean.

Or spiders, starlings, some species of fish... But yeah, in most species the males are the more pretty/colorful one.
