You can't change them to PNGs. They MUST be bitmaps (bmp). The original files pixel used (.pbm) are actually just renamed bitmaps (bmp), but PNGs are a different file format entirely, and thus Cave Story is unable to read themWhen I change the image files in the CS data folder w/ Cave Editor ( I want them to be .png so I can edit them w/ Paint.net), but only certain files are updated. The maps and NPC spritesheets just aren't changing and CS doesn't boot up. I've never had this problem before when modding.
Ah, thank you Just figured out the problem. I deleted Doukutsu.exe, data and the CE, and pasted em' back on, then changed the files to bmp. It runs more smoothly now.
