Urhhhhm, anyone know where the equip (like mimiga mask, turbocharge etc) offsets are? Or more specifically the arms barrier
orr super specifically like, the arms barrier energy loss multiplier thing

I thought I knew a thread about equip hacking, but cannot find and am still learnin ASM sooo

When I change the image files in the CS data folder w/ Cave Editor ( I want them to be .png so I can edit them w/ Paint.net), but only certain files are updated. The maps and NPC spritesheets just aren't changing and CS doesn't boot up. I've never had this problem before when modding.

You can't change them to PNGs. They MUST be bitmaps (bmp). The original files pixel used (.pbm) are actually just renamed bitmaps (bmp), but PNGs are a different file format entirely, and thus Cave Story is unable to read them

also you can 100% edit bmp files with paint.net

Ah, thank you Just figured out the problem. I deleted Doukutsu.exe, data and the CE, and pasted em' back on, then changed the files to bmp. It runs more smoothly now. I copy/pasted my png image onto the bmp.

I've already gotten used to the CE interface and I honestly don't care to learn how to use BL.

The interfaces aren't all that different. BL offers so much more, like the hackinator, and that useless script mode, which I have no idea what it actually does.

Also it has pictures of cats! What's not to like?

Yes, the interface alone is way nicer than CE xD
also, you can actually assign backgrounds to maps with BL. Things like that that you probably have grown resigned to dealing with :P

It doesn't work.

edit: yeah wait technically it does work, I lied. If you don't actually use the function to change anything, it'll work!
otherwise you just get the black bkg.
