Is it just me, or did they ruin it?

The fact that they changed the graphics was enough to turn me off completely. And I will leave my opinion at that.

I recently tried the WiiWare demo of CSWii, and I have to say I'm unimpressed with what was there.

I did like the new graphics compared to the old, but on the TV I played on there was hardly any difference.

The music pretty much didn't exist as it was drowned out in the DEATH I was causing, but during the odd pause in the violence it was alright I guess.

Hard mode was a joke. Really. If that's what they call hard mode I'm laughing. 3 HP no missiles? I laugh at thee!

The con-trolls left something to be desired; the classic controller made it a little better but trying to hold onto a smooth plastic rectangle while performing my patented CS moves was a little tricky.

On the subject of controls, I also noticed that they were marginally less responsive than in OCS resulting in a number of untimely trips into the Basil.

Given that the Wii version performed exactly as I expected it would, there was one little humoruous suprise: For completeness I did an easy mode run and, due to the mistiming of a jump, I landed on Basil only to get a cheap laugh as, on easy mode, Basils damage had been halved. He only overkilled be by 34 as opposed to 84. :p

I must say, I do much prefer the original, low-rez graphics. The more detailed ones just kinda look ugly to me.

I was debating whether to add a smiley to the end of that.

Ooh, missed your sarcasm.

Or was I being sarcastic too? *retcon*

I personally found the new graphics to be the only redeemable quality.
That's why I took them for the PC version :(

They're both ripped from mods on these forums...

First of all, know that anything I say about the game is currently still based on hearsay; I don't yet have the game, though I'll probably get it within the next month or so.

I was expecting an exact duplicate of the PC version we all know and love, but with smoother, optional music and graphics, more difficulty levels and save slots.
Well, that's part of your problem right there. If it was just an exact duplicate, then how would they expect to sell it? "Oh, it's exactly the same as this game that's available for free for the PC, except it costs $12. So naturally, we expect you to buy it instead of downloading the free version." They had to add stuff for it to sell, and new music and graphics aren't really enough.

- The translation is terrible. Not just different to the Aeon Genesis version, it contains quite a few very literal translations which just don't fit.
There are also mistakes in the PC translation, and many of the differences are (from what I hear) neutral in that neither of them is wrong.

hammil said:
"Huzzah!" - A little ye olde, but is pretty expressive and slightly humorous, perfect.
Replaced with: "Oh yeeaah!" - WTF?! That's just comical in it's stupidity.
While I do like Huzzah, I don't think there's a problem with the alternative.

hammil said:
"I've got the nose of a bloodhound!" - Everyone knows that a bloodhound has a very good smell.
"I've got the nose of a very clever Harrier" - A Harrier, in this sense, is an obscure cross breed of a bloodhound and beagle. Even my Dad didn't recognise it. Misery has to say that Balrog has "the brain of a dog" to make sure people get the now very odd joke.
This one I would agree with.

hammil said:
"King gets his ears in a tangle" - Aww, rabbit creature turn of phrase!
"King gets bent out of shape" - No one says that. Ever.
You're wrong; bent out of shape is a valid idiom that gets used often enough. The ears one may be slightly better due to referencing his species, but only slightly.

magic9mushroom said:
No, it's not that. If you bothered to read the thread instead of quipping you'd have noticed that.
Eh, it mostly is griping just that it was changed. There are some valid points, but only a few.

It only visually shortens them, they still work.
Malpercio, you should've done something like this: They Changed It Now It Sucks. Quote my post if you need to see the code for that.

The biggest downfall of the wii version is the endings after completing the Curly story. The credits' artwork are the same as for Quote.

Well, other than the fact that you have to pay for an essentially free game, I don't see much to complain about. As long as the heart and game play are still there, it shouldn't matter.

This is generally my thoughts on it as well.

my biggest problem with it is the translation, and all the problems in it can be identified from the get go
compare zazuma's dialog in

to

the main differences being that it tells you who is talking (as though it were an IM chat system), gives many more details (discerning the difference between IM chat and just a chat system), and sounds more awkward in general (someone's transmission vs. From somewhere, a transmission).
