Is it just me, or did they ruin it?

oh man sorry the main point I was trying to get across was that they tell you kazuma's name early on which ruined a huge part of the story for me, because tying the two things together in your mind (the transmission, and sue telling you to get her bro) during grasstown was pretty cool

I'm really fucking tired today

Wait wait wait wait....

You're upset because you get told Kazuma's name 3 LINES earlier than you would in the PC version? (He says his name during that bit of dialogue, you know)

What I hated the most was that Kazuma said "just joking LOL" or something like that instead of "that was a joke ha ha".

Sounds too generic

oh yeah... (7-.-)

I stand by my point though, IM and chat abbreviations like LOL are too mainstream for cave story

The original line set Kazuma up to be the slightly awkward character he was meant to be.

Well, since Aeon Genesis translated the PC game we know, and they're just a small, independent translation team, it's not like they would be officially hired to translate as opposed to Nicalis. AG still did the best translation job, in my opinion.

It may also be that we got so used and addicted to the original translation by agtp that we simply dismiss any other variation. Or the fact that Balrog screams "Oh Yeah" like a black porn star.

These minor differences do not really change the game can we get over it?
...Ok, some of the lines were better on the PC

The community here really did love the original PC script, so any change is almost a slap to the face to them in some ways.

To be honest though I think a lot of the complaints about the new script are just you guys being babies.

[Edit]: Waiting for the posts that will be raging at me. Any minute now...

The dialogue in the Nicalis version holds no emotion.
Everyone says what they mean using the simplest words possible, and it feels like a 5th grader wrote it. There is no sarcasm, few jokes, it's totally deadpan through and through.
The Aeon Genesis translation may not be word for word Pixel's dialogue, but it sounds less stiff and boring than the Nicalis translation. Signature lines aside, the whole translation has a lifeless feel about it that I really can't stand.

So maybe yeah, They Changed It Now It Sucks, but it's because they removed one of the biggest factors that made Cave Story so great: it's awesome script.

I'm sorry tpcool, but they aren't minor differences, and I can't get over them, because they do really change the game, in a significant way that I can't overlook.

I try not to cringe when my friends play the Nicalis version, but they're really missing out on the real Cave Story experience, which is why I recommended the game to them in the first place.

EDIT: sorry Gir for not raging at you, but I kind of agree with you at this juncture. Fanboys will be fanboys...

Sure it wasn't as great, but really IT WASN'T THAT BAD.

I believe most of us are suffering from something that I call (since I don't know the proper term for it) existential preference: the tendency to like what we see first. This is largely the reason I was disappointed with the Nicalis release at first, until I realized that it still was basically the same game, and that the changes in the script didn't really change much.

I just think you guys are making a mountain of a molehill.

I don't really think his is a mountain, but it's definitely bigger than a molehill.
I am one of the few people out of my friends who doesn't hate the new graphics, I even like the new quote (maybe because Pixel made that one himself, but meh).
I just think Nicalis' translation made the characters quite one-dimensional, and the characters were my favorite part of Cave Story.
Bah, maybe it's just my personal fiat but it really ruined the port for me D:

I agree that the translation is not as good, but it's fine with me, really. I played it so many times I don't need to read it. I also agree with GIR. There really wasn't any reason for me NOT to like the Wii version. I really love the graphics, the new music is good, and it feels similar but a little different at the same time.

The mimiga aren'y your enemies
:awesomeface::muscledoc::muscledoc:
Nit-picking (didn't they fix that in the patch anyways?). They really did need to get someone to spell check it though.

That was my only beef with the Nicalis port, is that it was initially buggy and all those modes weren't unlockables. Seemed rather unprofessional and unpolished.

I don't see how/why people would hate the new graphics, they seem great.

I'd also argue that the characters were always one dimensional, and I would challenge you to prove otherwise. In my opinion, the level of language a person speaks with isn't normally enough to give them much more depth.

The problem is that all the things wrong with Cavestowii, individually are very small, so anyone can call nitpicking. But if you do a lot of little things wrong, you get a big problem.

It's like switching from Windows to Mac. The premise is good, generally faster, no virii, good for media etc. But there is a lot of little things that aren't right. Some things are just that little bit slower. There's that keyboard combination that doesn't work anymore, and even though Steam has brought games to the Mac there's those few utility programs that have no Mac port, so you can't use them.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that you can't make any single complaint, it's the entire experience that's important. And the entire experience of the Wii version is inferior to that of the PC, even with it's benefits.

graphics? 9/10
music? 10/10
gameplay? 10/10
text? 4/10 raeg.
^ as proven by this, the only reason we're not all CSwii fags is because the translation sucks.
