Difference between Mods and Games

I don't get why you try so hard to proove that you're right and I'm wrong.

May I, as a bystander who's only skimmed most of these posts, make the humble suggestion that you are perhaps doing the same thing?

Hmm... Of course Counterstrike is game, but still a mod! This is because the engine is modified and so on ;P It's totally different.

But it's not the same with the Cave Story mods. They are not as much modified as for example Counterstrike is. Even not Runelancers Mod or Schism oder whatever.

Therefore CaveStory mods are games in there own right because of the work the person modding it put into it. As long as the person who made the mod doesn't claim 100% credit for making it but rather giving credit to Pixel for giving them the engine.

Mods can also be original in there own right, sure with CaveStory mods people are just re using the same boss battles and such, but that doesn't make it unoriginal because that person changed things in Pixel's game with his own ideas.

Jenka's Nightmare is a great example this, he changed the story and the bosses into something brand new.

You can call your mod a game, and you can call you mod something original, as long as you're not claiming the game to be completely yours and not giving Pixel credit.

But Shi and others following his lead go around flaming nearly every new member who posts in a mod thread, and a lotta members were objecting and ranting around in mod topics, so I thought it's better to keep the trash in the can and requested this topic.

Putting a stop to this practice of unneccesary and downright rude rectification is what I seek from this debate, nothing else. As you should be able to see from my posts I never endorsed the similarity between games and mods.

Boots was smart enough to free himself from terminal obligations by the simple act of adding the word "mod" in parantheses in the title of the thread.

I actually say there are nothing such as facts in discussion, because most "facts" grow up on definitions who are made of opinions. We can all agree Pixel was born on 05.04.1975 or whatever. But if you ask members what "love" is, then there are no facts because everyone defines "love" different.
