They're just hidden in the third dimension. Just like the lightbulbs, smartass. If you turn on your lamp and turn away from it, you'll still see the light.

No, he was calling Fire a smartass since Fire called him a smartass.

They aren't invisible, they're just hidden.

Hidden by magic means invisible. You must learn!

I did not say "by magic means". You fail.

To fail, is not to state something someone else said about your statement when what you said was not even stated in their statement.

Magic~™ is Metal's property. Gimme bonus marks.

And about the three-dimensional argument, you should still see shadows. And yea the argument is three-dimensional.

Yeah, yeah, whatever...

Well, that depends on how big shadow do the panels cast on the Outer Wall. If they completely cover the OW (snicker), there's not much you can say about shadows. Of course it could also be said that the Sun and Moon are in the background and the panels are... um... in the foreground. As an illustration: On your keyboard, the plane where Quote runs around is the middle row A-L, the sun is 7 and the panels are spacebar. All you can see in the game is Quote's plane and the background, i.e. rows A-L, Q-P and 1-0. The shadow cast by the panels are projected from the spacebar out of the keyboard towards your stomach. Phew, that's long...

Ok I get what you're saying, although it shouldn't really make sense. Like, the objects should appear dark then, since the face that we see, say, the row Z-M are the one opposite the source of light. The other face, row Q-P, will appear bright, but we'll not be able to see that since.... we're looking from here!

It's magic, you don't need to explain it.

No magic. There are light sources on the Outer Wall, powered by the solar panels. That's why the OW is so dark, yet we can still see there.

Because of the moon that's shining there?

Yeah, it shows in some of the art. When it shows Quote climbing the outer wall, I think it shows the moon in the background.

I would but I don't know where to find the art from the game.

The Cave Story Tribute Site:

But if the Moon is shining from the other side (since it's in the background in-game), our Outer Wall is shadowed by the Island.

See there it is.

And T-Jack, I was not talking about in-game.

I was, the entire time. There's not much point talking about that otherwise.

So basically, the only difference is scale. :p

My theory works because it doesn't have to work with your theory. And the Outer Wall light is artificial, just like on the rest of the Island.
Why would it be artificial? It's clearly outside, just like the Balcony.

No, it's dark because it's in the shadow of the island. We can still see because of the light reflected off the surface.

This isn't really relevant, though...

Artficial light works even when it's new moon.

Shadow of the Island (great name for a book, by the way) is exactly what I meant. As for the reflected light, well, I don't say that's not true, but... just read above.

Don't you contradict yourself a bit here?

What I mean is, the art isn't relevant for the question of how the Outer Wall is lit, because it's not always nighttime on the Outer Wall. All it means is that Pixel felt like drawing that scene at night.
