Noxid's Monthly Game Challenge - Scores Galore(s)!

Well, it is always possible to grind off the Gaudi in the one hallway... (I did that until I had like, 35 health) Also, about my score... That's skipping Booster v0.8. Are we going to just have 1 score or is there going to be a variety of scores like "No booster", "No snake", etc. I assume we're just going to have 1 score... I've gotten around 27/26 in that first room, it isn't too hard... second room is a mandatory 9 (I think 9?) jumps. After that, it all changes...

 

Just a single run, this will be a short challenge. Maybe only a week or two.

 

No different categories, I'm doing some things I normally would never do so as to get my jump count down and I wouldn't like being in a different part of the competition for that.

I was able to get 15 in the first room... but the challenge suddenly became much less fun trying that ;-;

Yeah, honestly I find 15 far too small of a number for the first room...I believe the absolute lowest you can get if you manage to land a VERY difficult jump is like, 26, and there's probably some exploit I didn't notice to get it down a further 1 or 2...but that's really about it.

Maybe I'm missing something to shave off those five points....

 

Now it's 15, huh? I will be a witness to X-Calibar's testimony, he was making some pretty nifty use of resetting his blinking by going to his items menu and back. The bare minimum for the first room without damage jumping is 27, but by using it, I saw X-Calibar do it with 17 yesterday in his live stream. Not sure when he cut it down to 15 though.

I don't think I want to complete the contest trying this.... this is like ghostrunning for cave story ;-;

What did you do at Monster X? I keep getting run over by its treads because I can't not jump without getting hurt.

 

We appear to be approaching what I hope to be the theoretical lower bound so I'm gonna call Sunday as the last day to submit, remember, even if you aren't a nut like these guys participation still counts! My score probably won't be that great!

 

I have the same question as Hayden, I need to know how to do Monster X correctly. I have 38 jumps at the save right before the fight, but even if I do some extreme farming for health, I still die with around 50 jumps.

Only one week? Personally, I would be in favor of keeping this challenge open for the regular two-week window. This is Cave Story we're talking here.

 

well what are people sposta do once someone gets like, "the" perfect score and then a bunch of people duplicate it

 

GIR said that he might have been able to improve his score, so the perfect score hasn't necessarily even been made yet. I myself haven't even submitted a score yet. I also wouldn't be surprised if there are some people used to the two-week pattern seen before who are planning to participate in this, but were busy this week and will be less busy next week and plan on submitting a score then. I can't prove that's the case with anyone, but you can't prove otherwise. The impression I'm getting from this competition is that it's not about winning, but rather about the community having fun showing off their scores with a bit of friendly competition added to the mix, and their ability to submit their scores not being hindered by the highest score dominating. We haven't let a dominant score end the competition early before, so why do it now?
