I know the 'pity party' part was sarcasm. But what I gathered from this thread is to post negative remarks about your life. If that's wrong, could anyone please tell me non-sarcastically what this thread is for?

(As if my semi-psychopathic little sister wasn't enough...)

This segment contradicts itself. The "pity party" part of Wild Desu's post wasn't really being sarcastic. The statement in your second sentence is correct.

This statement here was pretty much serious:

This thread is all about talking about how much your life sucks, and sending out personalized invitations to your pity party, of course.
And this statement was sarcastic:

Not like this thread is made for that or anything
When it comes to people here and detecting sarcasm, usually a dead giveaway is when they say "It's not like (statement) or anything," then they're almost always being sarcastic.

I thought that's when most people are serious.
I'm sorry, I've never been good at detecting sarcasm.

More like part-serious. The term "pity-party" is pretty negative and I was just kinda being an asshole as a joke. I have nothing but sympathy for people who go through rough spots.

Gonna be honest here, it's probably better to not post or use your CONTEXT CLUES to figure out what other people are saying before you jump into things.

It's a good idea to lurk a bit and try to fully understand things before posting. And nobody really enjoys "what is this" "I don't get it" posts like that because it doesn't contribute anything to discussion and is more of an annoyance (no offense or anything). It's better to try and figure things out for yourself and get a good feel for things before jumping into the deep, dark, scary pool that is posting on the internet.
