I see you'e having some fun with this whole mmish thing, but hey, what are obsesion-driven fans for? I'll give more input when I'm not looking at six point font.

If {arm} and {leg} are the same symbol, it would be {limb}.
Yeah, and {Above}{Limb} would mean "arm" and [alt]{Above}{Limb} would mean "leg". Which means {Above} should also work as "upper".

Damn, I should speed up with the symbols...

Conector Symbols:
[on] (previous symbol on/over next symbol)

Start/Begin (both alt and non-alt variations can mean "Zero" as it is the beginning of the counting system)
One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six
Seven
Eight

Note: The Mimiga counting system is {Start}, {One}, {Two}, {Three}, {Four}, {Five}, {Six}, {Seven}, {Eight}, {One}{One}, {One}{Two}, etc. which was basically 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11,12.. since Mimiga have a base of 8 in their counting system due to only having 8 fingers (humans have a base of 10, so our number 21 is their number 25). The first set of numbers is based on the left hand and the other on the right. {Start} is only used in the number 0 and does not show up in any other number since 10 is replaced by the number 8, this can cause confusion when comparing to the human numbering system.
If anyone could check that I haven't doubled up on symbols or created a symbol that can be created with two or more other symbols then that would be great.

Thinking of changing the number system, but this time to {Start}, {One}, {Two}, {Three}, {Four}, [alt]{One}, [alt]{Two}, [alt]{Three}, [alt]{Four}, {One}{One}, {One}{Two}, etc. That way it can be like my original one but with only one symbol per digit.

I've always wondered why people don't count in bases equal to the amount of fingers they have on one hand rather than two. In base 4, like a mimiga would have, you can represent numbers up to 24 using both hands (one for each digit; 00 to 44.) In base 5, we could count up to 35, rather than just 10. :p

This would be handy (pardon the pun) to compensate for having less fingers to count on. Random food for thought on numbering systems.

Don't we only need to have Mimish words that actually show up in the movie on signs or whatever? Does ALL of that show up on signs?

Don't you mean 20? But the main issue with this is the number of symbols per digit in a number. With the mimiga counting system I am trying to do it with only one symbol per digit and with the least number of different symbols required. Besides the method you are describing would more represent a base 20 numbering system than a base 4 numbering system, actually it would be a base 4 number within a digit within a base 20 number thing. :p I thought of doing this but I never used it for the same reason I scrapped the first numbering system.

Those are not words but letters or symbols that are used to create words.

Base 4 would go from 00 to 33, not to 44. The base of a counting system (or whatever it is called in English) can be simply explained as the number of digits the system uses. In base 4 that would be 0,1,2,3. Well of course the Mimigas could easily count in base 5, since then they don't need more than four fingers on each hand. The greatest figure on two hands, 44, wold be 24, as RuneLancer correctly noted. Also, if each hand would have its own digit, then it would really be base 5.

PS: {Here} {Be}[alt]{Above} "Arthur", {Positive} {Brave}{Person}[of]{Mimigas}

Sorting the lines reveals no doubles.

You're absolutely right. Suppose you know where a sign saying {Water} is, then.

I finally got a chance to look over the whole language thing. Pretty detailed. A few words I'd add:

land/home/island
earth/surface/foreign
instrument/tool
evade/dodge
argue/debate/contradict
irk/annoy
clothing/apparel
fire (might add onto hot/heat)
trap/corner/catch
finish/end/conclude

Just some suggestions. Oh, and does the counting system go from 88 to 100 or 111?

Yep, that's right. Although I'm not sure if the door is present in the movie version. Is it?

Welcome back dude. Good suggestions, mostly, only "Finish" is already [alt]{Start}. And... hey, andwhy, I already suggested {Tool}! Where's that on your list?

Well, since Mimish doesn't have word for "zero", it goes from 88 to 111. Confusing, but different. And that's the point.

Hence, the letters having creating words, the signs now have words on them. Let me clarify my point, though: are all of those words going to be used in the movie? And, if not, why do we need to make words that won't be used there? At least, why do it in the Movie Script thread anyway.

P.S. Do we need to work out how the words are pronounced?

Hence, the letters having creating words, the signs now have words on them. Let me clarify my point, though: are all of those words going to be used in the movie? And, if not, why do we need to make words that won't be used there? At least, why do it in the Movie Script thread anyway.
And have you ever used all the words you've ever heard or read in your life? The point of creating Mimish is that we're bored. Well, at least I am. The only one working hard on this project is Atravir, the rest of us are just discussing random parts of the script/game. As if making up a completely new language for a work of fiction was unheard of. And we do it in this thread because, well, it's gonna be used in the movie, and were it not for the movie script, we would never start this.

Welcome back dude. Good suggestions, mostly, only "Finish" is already [alt]{Start}. And... hey, andwhy, I already suggested {Tool}! Where's that on your list?
Look at my last list, it's there.

Well, since Mimish doesn't have word for "zero", it goes from 88 to 111. Confusing, but different. And that's the point.
Yep. :D

I finally got a chance to look over the whole language thing. Pretty detailed. A few words I'd add:

land/home/island
earth/surface/foreign
instrument/tool
evade/dodge
argue/debate/contradict
irk/annoy
clothing/apparel
fire (might add onto hot/heat)
trap/corner/catch
finish/end/conclude

Just some suggestions. Oh, and does the counting system go from 88 to 100 or 111?
- earth/surface is [alt]{sky}
- for foreign I could create a letter for environment/surroundings and have foreign as [alt]{environment}[alt]{know}
- evade/dodge might be better as something created from a {Miss} symbol. {miss}{self}{create} maybe?

I'll look into this stuff later.

PS: {Here} {Be}[alt]{Above} "Arthur", {Positive} {Brave}{Person}[of]{Mimigas}
The Mimiga symbol for "person" also translates to "Mimiga". Hmm.. Brave symbol.

Score! :D

I already know about base numbers though.

This was what I assumed runelancer was suggesting (L=left hand, R=right hand):
1L 0R
2L 0R
3L 0R
4L 0R
1L 1R
2L 1R
3L 1R
4L 1R
1L 2R
2L 2R
3L 2R
4L 2R
1L 3R
2L 3R
3L 3R
4L 3R
1L 4R
2L 4R
3L 4R
4L 4R
As you can see, up to 20 (decimal) on two hands both with four fingers.

P.S. Do we need to work out how the words are pronounced?
No, at least not for the perpose of creating this movie. This will be a written language only, unless there is an interest in building a spoken language from it as well. Personally I can see two uses for mimish: signs and MIMISH SUBTITLES FOR THE ENTIRE MOVIE!!!

*ahem*

Oh? Yeah, sorry, my bad.

Why the first [alt]? I think it can be written as "surroundings we don't know"

And instead of {Miss} you could have {Hit} and use [alt]{Hit}...

I think there should be the difference between "person" and "society", otherwise it would just confuse readers. And yeah, {Brave} is pretty important. I designed the symbol to look like baseball cap...

Well... sure. Let's just assume they use their version of base 8...

Subtitles... hmm... Certainly good idea for a DVD extra... Also, there could be some background texts, like in Simpsons or Futurama. Know what I mean?

And some more letters to check for doubles. If a letter below can be represented by more than one letter then tell me okay. :D
Controller symbols:
[alt] (means next symbol, the one below, is its opposite)
[null] (means the absence of whatever the next symbol, the one below, represents)

Conector Symbols:
[on] (previous symbol on/over next symbol)
[in] (previous symbol within next symbol)

Standard Symbols:
Do
Be
Front/Ahead
Large/Tall/High/Big/Great
Emotion
Up/Above/Sky/Upper (alt variation can mean earth or another name for the surface)
Water/Ocean/River/Sea/Lake/Dam/Creek/Rain/Waterway.. (you get the idea)
Physical
Positive/Yes/Good
Obtain/Gain/Possess/Take
Letter/Symbol/Glyph
Mimiga
Self
Mutiple
Hot/Heat
Create/Build/Created/Built (can also mean to work towards something)
Natural (alt means artificial)
Alert
Vessel/Container
Fast/Quick/Agile
Life/Soul/Spirit/Ghost
Lead ("[alt]{Lead}" means "Follow")
Language/Sentence/Paragraph
Open/Expand/Increase
Complete/Full
Time/Event/Age (in the case of stating someone's age, the numbers are included after the {Age} symbol in the same word)
True/Truth
Help/Assist
Offer/Request (alt variation can mean accept)
Tool/Instrument
Brave
Environment/Surroundings/Home
Came/Here
Hit
Argue/Debate/Contradict
Irk/Annoy
Clothing/Apparel
Trap/Corner/Catch
Finite
Loose/Free
Aim/Target/Indicate
Think/Mind/Intelligence
Ability
Place/Area/Location
Permission
Luck (null means bad luck, alt means skill)
Learn/Remember/Know
Pain
Strong
Width/Wide
Tree/Shrub/Plant
Hear/Sound/Noise
Story/Tale
Now/Present
Like/Love/Appreciate
Reproduction/Birth/Sex
Family/Brother/Mother/Father/Sister
Fair/Just/Rules/Standards
Soft/Fine
Strange/Wierd/Silly ({Strange}[alt]{Positive} can sometimes mean insane)
Safe/Protect/Shelter/Defend
See/Visual/Look (can be used to say how something appears to you)
Left
Limb
Hand/Foot/Paw
Being/Creature
Start/Begin (both alt and non-alt variations can mean "Zero" as it is the beginning of the counting system)
One
Two
Three
Four

Note: The Mimiga counting system is {Start}, {One}, {Two}, {Three}, {Four}, [alt]{One}, [alt]{Two}, [alt]{Three}, [alt]{Four}, {One}{One}, {One}{Two}, etc. which was basically 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11,12.. since Mimiga have a base of 8 in their counting system due to only having 8 fingers (humans have a base of 10, so our number 21 is their number 25). The first set of numbers is based on the left hand and the other on the right. {Start} is only used in the number 0 and does not show up in any other number since 10 is replaced by the number 8, this can cause confusion when comparing to the human numbering system.

Replaced miss with hit btw, also added person, in a way. I added a word for all creatures, apply intelligent to it and you would limit that to sentient creatures, which I suppose would land you with the word "people".
