Well I'm not saying that they're BAD by any stretch but I feel like since this is your big improvement run you would want to get it as good as you can. I know sometimes it feels like it sucks just getting something right the first time (something with I've had to live with anyway running Pokemon Gold because of "lol only one save") but trying again even if you can't beat it often makes the difference between making a really great run and not.

Lastly, it's better to restart early rather than half-way through... even though technically you're like 1/4 done time-wise already >_>

I definitely understand heh.

Tomorrow I will work on re-doing the segments I have currently. It kinda helps though, I have something to gauge how well I need to be doing now.

I think the grasstown segment will definitely be the most annoying due to that damn random chance of getting the heart from the bat :o It took me like 80 tries to get that segment done (only getting the heart like 4-5 times during). Luckily it's not a very long segment.

Sheesh, the more of this run you do, the greater my dislike becomes of timed runs...
I'm so glad Pixel never included any real time sections in Cave Story :D

Actually, you have to check the door so you know to tell malco the door's rusted shut. I know, because I try and skip it sometimes and get :mad: because I have to go back.
Heheh, I kinda lost my train of thought somewhere during that post of mine...
I started out saying "Oh, you have to check the door after talking to Kazuma. I remember that because someone made a thread over it, getting really mad, just because he never checked something as trivial as the door...."
But then, for some reason, I mixed "Door" with "Kazuma", and rewrote my post entire post... {And spent awhile hunting through CE}
Embarrassing brain fart.... :D;

Hahah yeah if doing this kind of stuff was mandatory of the game it'd be pretty crazy :X but it's pretty fun for me, I enjoy it :mad:

I'm going to have to do like a bloopers reel or something...some of the stuff that keeps happening is too damn comical..

Wow. I'm having horrible luck re-doing my first segment...

Screw random xp drops and bat patterns and mushroom looking bastards in the graveyard who move about at random.

Man I wish I can see you speedruns but I use dial-up. By the way, what program do you use to record your speed runs?

I use a program called Hypercam, it's what I've always used to record cave story stuff :x

I'm not sure what other programs are good.

I'm having terrible luck today >_>

Cheap or Quality?

FRAPS is supposed to be really good for recording full screen games and ok for recording a window.
Yeah, FRAPs is pretty easy to use. {Just make sure you set the FPS to match the game you're running. I think Cave Story runs 50 normally}
It just makes super fat file sizes.
I have to use another program just to cut down on the size, once it's recorded >.>;

Well it's simple:
FRAPS saves the video uncompressed.
1. Compressing the Video on-the-fly while recording would steal perfomance
2. you can always decide what fomrat/codec you go for later. over and over again.

I was wondering if you made any progress since the last time you posted a video, Chaddykins. I hope you're still working, or at least thinking of working on the run.

Okay..so...I'm gonna start on this again.

I've had a lot of things going on lately (and the past few months) so I haven't had a lot of time. Actually this is a lot of lies. But anyway!

I am going to start this up again...

Also I'm streaming it on ustream for anyone interested in watching as I go. Hopefully this will somewhat motivate me if not just give me someone to talk to.

I'm starting over from scratch as well, which isn't really a whole whole lot because I only had two segments up so far.

But yeah...I start now.

Stream for anyone interested

hey, it's that guy I've seen in lots of old posts but I thought he left forever before I joined!

So the goal is to skip as much as possible AND do it all with 3 hp? Like, basically, run through the game in the most challenging way you can possibly imagine?

Fraps also costs $40, as ive recently discovered.

Re: Cheap or Quality?

*After returning Santas Key*
Chaddykins spent like 5 minutes trying to shave 2 off his time.
He then proceeded to delete his save file.
Then he died. 7 times.
Then he wasted 30 more minutes trying to shave 2 off, all the while dying 6 times.
He finally got into Grasstown.
THEN HE DIED TO "one of those little cute gravestones that shoot donuts at you".
Then he left for a while.
Came back, wasted more hours time on that damn shortcut, dying 6 times.
HE FINALLY GOT INTO GRASSTOWN.
Then he died to BALROG and ate a burrito.
Wasted time on that longcut.
Got into Grasstown again. Said, "Luck be with me." He then died from a BAT.
(Here I made a comment about how you can spell Choco as Chaco and then applied it to the Choco Tacos you can buy from the ice-cream truck)
Got into Grasstown for the 4th time.
Dies to a Mannan.

Re: Cheap or Quality?

"luck be with me" and the time he opened the jellyfish juice chest and just exploded were the best moments of the evening

it was actually really fun watching up to the point at which he got to chacos house but from that point it's been like 2 hours with no advancement; I would wonder why he wouldn't just try a normal show-offy run for the stream then do the super-pixel-perfect run by himself but I guess he needs moral support from streamgoers to not kill himself when trying the perfect run lmao
