Okay, Ballos isn't intending to cause Quote hallucinations, but it happens anyway. I like this theory, but it needs fleshing out.
It's also ridiculous.

I think he just want a good battle before he died.
But he couldn't die in the first place, because his magic kept him alive.
Besides, explain how it'd be a good battle when you turn into a ball and all you do is try to run over your opponent..? =P

Ballos already knew Quote and Curly would be the ones who would kill him since he can see the future.

Explain how that isn't a good battle. Just because you don't think it's good doesn't mean Ballos didn't.

Nothing in the game ever pointed to Ballos being able to predict the future, or knowning that Curly and Quote would kill him...

And, I guess it's Ballos' idea of fun, being the "WRITHING BALL OF INSANITY" :D

Well, I always figured that Ballos only wanted to, erm, motivate Quote into killing him. He's mad, anyway.

He was a super-powered being that couldn't be killed or die. Do you seriously think he couldn't see into the future?

All that power and he forgot future seeing?

Well, he used the power to KILL! CRUSH! DESTROY! Why would he invest in divination spells? At least I think it's divination...

Maybe because of his Madness, he never used it...
Kinda hard to think straight with such horrid powers ripping at your soul, alongside the guilt of killing not only your loved ones, but your entire, beloved kingdom...

Or maybe, he was scared of what he'd see:
Living out eternity in that sealed room of his...

Maybe he did look into the future, but you'd think he'd help Quote along more, like stop him from ever being able to talk to Booster...

{Course, that could be what the Red Line's from, but that seems pretty weak for an "All powerful being"}

Why would he help Quote though?

We just went over this...
He wants to die, and Curly and Quote are the only ones who can do it...

How does he know that if he can't see the future?

Erm, I think we got broke off and lost...

I said that, if he could see into the future, then it would have made more sense if he had helped Quote.
But he didn't, so I don't think he really saw into the future...

It would actually make less sense. If he could see into the future he would be able to see that Quote wouldn't need any help in getting to him and killing him.

What makes me curious is that the only non-dangerous red thing in the whole game is that line in the room where Booster fell...

(OK, Booster's glasses as well ^_-)

You mean the line where you have to jump at to get across without falling in?

Yup, that's the one.
By the way, what about the Red Flowers? They're also not dangerous, on their own.
