Nothing's dangerous on its own, it's only when you interact with it that it wrecks your ships.
Quote's clothes are also red, and don't hurt you. Same with hearts and life capsules.

Even then it's enough to prove that there's no connection between red colour and danger.

 

I disagree. Red = danger in 99% of video games, and Cave Story is no exception. However, health = hearts = red, so that's confusing when you think about it.

What makes Quote so dangerous is the "Retry?" button.
Let's be honest, how many people made it through the Start Cave without dying {Oh, I spelt it right again, andwhy =D} once?
Let alone the entire game...

 

I went through the First Cave many times in a row to get the Polar Star to lv. 3 and I never died. One time I even forgot to get the life boost, and I still did all that. I think Toroko (in the shack, non-enraged) killed me that time.
