• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Re: Hell Mod Contest!

eah, the way Bute and Gaudi code works is that they start with 1000 hp, then if their hp gets too low (for a gaudi it's less than 985) hp, they change into their corpse npc, which then plays an animation and "dies".

same for the suns, but they start at 100 and go to 80, and then asplode.

EDIT BY DT: Yes, the mod does actually have to be hell-themed, although new sprites/tilesets/characters are presumably welcome. The list of mods will follow once they start turning up.

When is this exactly going to happen?

We have my mod, Fahrenhight's mod, Wedge of Cheese's mod, trickybilly's mod, Jethawk's mod...etc...and yet no update to the first post at all.

Are we waiting for more "completed" mods to come out, or what?

Another discovery, while I'm at it: h-triggers respond strangely to slopes, such that the trigger itself will 'slip' along the slope until it finds a solid block to connect to. Dunno about v-triggers.

I do not believe that the second room is possible without hacking.

If it is: PROVE IT

I saw how to avoid the first wave.. but after that it simply looks impossible to continue without getting killed by the basils...

(I didn't realize they stay on a horizontal path!!! I thought they would fall or something! DAMN!)

It's all possible; I've done it all myself. You just gotta be fast.

Also, in your mod, there seems to be a glitch in the room right after the "chasm of death". You get to the end and it just takes you back to the beginning.

I find it funny that you think that's a glitch. Keep going...

I feel like I've been forgotten...

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present:
p90866-0-slh.png

Basically, it's a remake of Sacred Grounds, but in Super Mario World.

So far, I've only got the first room done {don't go through the door at the end}, but even though there's not a lot of gameplay right now, a lot of work's been put into it. Goddamn those tiny bugs that take hours to fix....

Anyways, the links:
Esnips {Patch}
Mediafire {Patch}
As with SLW, you'll need a clean SMW ROM {Sold separately} and a patcher.

I might just update this room by room, but now I've got to learn how to use Assembly to create SMW sprites, so it might be awhile....
Comments and etc are appreciated.

And if you find yourself dying time and time again, you could be cheap-ish and use savestates :rolleyes:;

AHHHHH!!! Forget savestates! Luigis slippery physics +gay controller + LOTS OF SPIKES = FRUSTRATION UP THE @$$!!!!!!!!!!!

God. Idk. Save states barely helped. I tried for like 25 minutes,
then gave up =O.

You're good.

VERY good.

The spikes are a lie

It might help that I'm more use to Luigi's altered physics {He jumps higher, too} and have a decent controller :p;
That hardest part is getting to the long drop, but after you reach that you can basically make it to the end in just a few more seconds. {If you find the certain something}
The one problem I have with the first room is that the spikes are actually just Black Piranha plants {Did you know those are actually tiles and not sprites?}, so even when it looks like you're not touching the spike, you still get hurt. {Unlike Cave Story, I think you needed to be somewhat in the spike, first}
I remember having a tough time, when first working on the level, but it gets easier after 50+ deaths :rolleyes:
{Just wait until you have Butes shooting arrows and buzzing around your head while a Mesa tosses blocks in your direction while you try to do all that fancy jumping over more spikes}

Status?

Ok then. We currently have 7 mods. (8 if you count Jethawks version of Trickybilly's mod). There are 2 (I'm pretty sure that's all) mods that are apparently being made but haven't really been mentioned.

Those are Ralren's and DoubleThink's.

Status update? Cause I think after that we can move on to the next phase (judging/winner?).

Thats where I come in...

As it is my displeasure to stop playing earthbound,
I started this contest and as such, I am a judge.

Be back in a bit...

I've finished B2 and have started on B3. There was a about a week and a half where I couldn't find much time to work on it over christmas. There's not much more for me to do after B3.

I was thinking of giving this until the 22nd, making it a nice round month-long contest. I can get it done by then, but Ralren thinks he'll struggle to get his done before February.

Also, only 3 of those mods are actually complete. Only complete mods are going to be judged. It is nowhere near time yet to start judging.

Wait what?

What about Ralren's or DT's hacks?
That, and I'm no where even done with mine >.>;
What happen to the deadline?
{Although, I don't even remember what happened to it. It just kept getting juggled around...}

EDIT:
Er, darn near-same time posting...

Wow. I cannot believe I overlooked that. I fail.

Anyway, Ralren's was looking really interesting and difficult. Yours I haven't seen many pics of.

And if you can't tell I am really active in this thread :p

So the 22nd is fine by me (I'm sick of looking at mine. I'm glad I finished it, ,more or less. I am moving on to a storyline-heavy mod, after this contest is over [provided I can solve a few music problems i've been having. Check out the music forum to help me out if you can.] Anyway, I'll be usind CE for my next mod, so hopefully it will be better.) so I guess we just need to hear from Ralren. When do you think your mod will be completed, DoubleThink?

I'm nearly done with B3 now. I'm busy tomorrow and Wednesday, but there's not much left to do, so probably Thursday at the latest.

I'm hoping that the deadline of the 22nd has been removed; has it? Cause right now all my teachers suddenly decided to start raping me with homework, so I have like no time for modding. (just one more post...)

Well the 22jd is friday and we haven't heard from Jethawk in a While. Nor from some others. I think this needs to be extended into February...

Alright, like I predicted, my mod is DONE. All I need to do now is run one last test play-through and get a small bit of help to finish it off. Yays.
