Super missile
Blade
Fireball
(I rarely bother to get the Bubbler.)
My weapon usefulness set:
1. Spur
2. Super missile/Missile(Helped me defeat Ballos...)
3. Blade
4. Bubbler
5. Fireball
6. Snake
7. Polar Star
8. Machine Gun
9. Nemesis

I've noticed lots of people here say that the machine gun is better than the spur and snake. ( at least in hell) I don't get it. The spur is the most powerful weapon and the snake can go through walls. yeah the machine gun can boost you up and has rapid fire, but in the Ballos fight the spur good to have. tell me which you think is better. (and woot! 900th post in general discussion!)

Not sure if this thread's been made before, because it probably has, but.
I prefer the machine gun for normal end runs.
I haven't been able to beat hell without the spur, so, spur for best end runs.

Ever so slightly off topic, but, attempting to do Sand Zone without the machine gun is actually my least favorite part of the game.

I find it's fairly easy with the appropriate use of missiles. (On those birds near the warehouse, everything else is easy to kill)

Yeah, I don't really like going through the Sand Zone without the Machine Gun (I don't really like going through Sand Zone in the first place), but that's usually the only place it's useful because the Snake and Spur are certainly better weapons overall. The Machine Gun might look useful in Hell for beginners, but the Snake has the advantage. I believe Dunc said this before, but shooting through walls is, while time consuming, extremely safe. It can also probably do more damage per second if you can rapid fire half decently. Spur is still my choice for every serious Cave Story playthrough.

Yep, I've only beaten Hell one time (10'48"). It was with the snake. So I agree.

The Snake is great for first-time Hellrunners and speedrunners as well - it can shoot through walls, so you can destroy Deleets quickly, or you can snipe from a safe distance. So really the Snake is the best weapon (at least in Hell). The only thing I can think of for the Spur is its range and damage but even there you have to charge it up for maximum effect and the Nemesis has as much range as you usually need in Hell.

I started a new file in Cave story Dsiware and the machine is better than i remebered. the sand zone was easier and other sections too. Maybe I was wrong....
