Quote's eyes do HEAVILY resemble Sue's in that face icon, but that's one reason I quite like it, lol..

They're distinctly different images, although similar. Of course, drawing new facepics doesn't take 3 years.

 

- pixel knows this face icon won't be seen more than like once in an alternate mode (that was going to be dlc when he made the icon)

- pixel hasn't made one of these from scratch in awhile presumably so thinks using another one as a base would make it a lot easier and more comfortable to come up with something

- he at least has the decency to use the one face icon no one would ever have seen during simple gameplay of cave story as this base

- except for the position of the eyes and the spike of hair on the forehead they don't look that similar anyway

- this made quote super adorable so don't complain

Who cares? I'd rather have a nice-looking picture of Quote rather than a more vicious pic.

You forgot that Pixel didn't draw it. Nicalis drew it, and Pixel may have tweaked it.
Things that are the same in those pictures (well okay, Quote picture has four times as many pixels):
Eyes
Mouth position
Cheeks
Chin
Neck
Hair in center of face
Hair to Quote/Sue's left side

Uhm, you know, that works the same for Kazuma and Momorin, before the WiiWare version.

They incredibly similar. {I guess you can say Family Resemblance, but you know what I mean}
We also have sprites like Balrog/Pooh Black, and Red Demon/Drolls.
Pixel's done this before, it's not a big deal at all.

 

But tween momo and kazu, it could just be coz they're fam, but Sue and Quote aren't related at all (as far as we know). Also the neck flab is in the same spot. Also I'm being overly critical because I don't like change. Alsoalso, has the music been fixed enough for me to buy this yet?

I love how defensive everyone's getting about this. Calm down, guys, it's just one picture, and that post was just to point out all the similarities, not to say "THIS PICTURE IS GAY."
Honestly, it's sort of a wink to us hardcore Cave Story fans who immediately noticed it was based on Human Sue.

 

I never said I didn't like it, I just thought the similarities were a bit out of place.
And that it would be humorous if he was an insane killer death machine.

Don't ask me how to get these to show up.. just found the sprites. I'd expect playing on specific holidays *hint hint* will do it, but I can't change the date on my Wii because it would mess with Animal Crossing.

Just to confirm, the first sprite there is a zombie quote that you play as on Halloween, while the second is what the zombie quote looks like with the mimiga mask on. The same goes for christmas; Reindeer is without mimiga mask, other is w/ mimiga mask. Unfortunately, the same sprite is used for curly as well, so curly story essentially becomes cave story on those holidays. . Also, Curly's speaking sprite is left unchanged

Actually that's how the scarf looks on all the sprites except christmas.

 

Right you are. As near as I can tell, the low-res version of that sprite is indeed the beta sprite. I suppose it would make sense that Quote's halloween costume is his old outfit...
