In fact, I don't see a lot of square-shaped soap anymore. Where I live, they seem to make em' all curved or oval-shaped.

I always saw Balrog as a walking luggage bad that can fly when I first started playing CaveStory, and now I perceive him as a flying toaster. What more could you ask for in the imagination department.

Balrog is Balrog. He may be inspired by some designs, but in game, he is a robot made by some person. I don't know if toasters are even shaped the same way in Japan.

It kinda resembles Balrog, if you imagine the sliders as his arms. Then just slap some legs and a little face on there, and WHAM.

Balrog may be related to dr gero and the nurse in some way, they have similar shapes, the dr and nurse are frogs, like balfrog, also puu black, meaning he may be that species and was cursed to be a robot, he would most likely be a nurse

The lunchbox/briefcase thing is only because the top of the door behind Balrog during his first appearance looked like a handle. I think we can safely discount that.

I think that Pixel wanted to make a villain but didn't know what to make him look like. So he made a square with eyes, a mouth and wings.
