What the heck is Balrog?

well he's a big robot i guess, a fat one as well

 

I don't know if it was posted before, but he doesn't actually have a handle. It's a fragment of door. Later in the game, we can clearly see it. But I think he's still a lunchbox.

Yeah, I posted it before, but most of everything you or anyone else will say in this thread has most likely been posted before numerous times.

One of these days I should consider doing up a pie chart for this thread.

 

Well, yet we only know that he is the (male) punching bag for Misery. And he must be good at that as you fight him 4(!) times. So judging by

• his square form
• his clean(ish?) look
• how he easily crushes robots
• and how he seems to be too heavy to fly,

he must be made of a heavy material like stone. He doesn't look that mobile. In fact, his left and right side are partially cut open, so that his wings have free space.
So what if what we see is not the real Balrog? What we see could be a shell. Something could be inside of there. In the intro sequence, you can already see Balrog inside of his shell/armor while the doctor puts on his crown. So what if one of the previous Demon Crown wearers sealed Balrog in his shell.

Another answer is that he is "a Balrog". What? The Mimiga are Mimiga and no bunnies, so Balrog could also be some species whose name we just don't know from the game.

Don't have a source, but if I remember correctly he's supposed to be based off of a bar of soap.

Personally, I don't see it, but I guess that's what it was. I do see why it could be confusing, he does seem to have some robotic qualities.

This annoys me because besides being rectangular, balrog looks nothing like soap.

He was soap during the beta, i'm pretty sure he's a robot now, who just happens to be rectangular. I'll still see him as the Little Brave Toaster's older self

I just go off what some fan art says that he's a robot more than anything.

Implying it wasn't run into the ground a few years ago.

 

On the Japanese Cave Story DSi Website, each character had drawn out names, and some had little drawings next to them. For Balrog'g name, it was a bar of soap.
So I feel it's safe to assume that he is, in some way, related to a bar of soap.

We don't see Balrog get wet over the course of the game, so it's highly probable that he could last for years as long as his exposure to water is minimal.
