No, they really still do. If the critters can repopulate an area in the time it takes to open a door, imagine what they'd do from the time of the war to when Quote wakes up. The Sand Crocs have to keep their populations in check.
Jenka would know this and, being the island-lover than she is, would NOT hurt the Sand Crocs in any way.

How can they hurt it? They prevent a horrible flood of critters and bats, thus PROTECTING everyone, and they naturally light up the caves.

They hurt everything they see. And there's no proof that they're present in other areas than Sand Zone and Outer Wall.

The Sand Crocs ran around the island killing everything in sight before Jenka sealed them up.

They didn't run around. They actually tunnel underground, they appear above to kill off Critters, who, even with the help of Sand Crocs, overrun the island. They couldn't survive by killing everything, and do have to stay in the presence of light.

They were damaging the Island's ecosystem no matter how they moved around.

They kept the Mimigas from being destroyed by a MASSIVE SWARM OF PAIN AND CRITTERS. And the bat can fight the Sand Crocs, and therefore they are not the top of the food chain. That's also why bats drop when they attack. A critter sturs up a Sand Croc, and the bat drops it. (Haha, puns.)

They also chomped the Mimigas who were unfortunate enough to meet a Sand Croc.

No, the Mimigas had guns, could jump out of the Sand Croc's range, and they're just generally REALLY FAST. I mean look how fast Sue ran when the island was collapsing!

Why do you need solar panels to provide energy for light bulbs? I always got the impression that The Core was an energy source, so why not just light the bulbs using its energy?

Because it uses all of its energy keeping the island afloat against all of Ballos's negative energy.

They had no guns, and nothing of that really helps you when you're all of a sudden being eaten.

Even Quote can run faster than a Sand Croc can bite. And Mimigas can run even FASTER than Quote.

Those are the fat, post-panel Crocs. The pre-panel ones were fast enough to kill a Mimiga before the Mimiga could do anything.
