Hm. So if maps and scripts are minor, I wonder what the major edits that will be hidden in the patch are...

I have to say, I don't particularly think this project business is fair. If not to the end user, then to Pixel. It's my understanding people asked him before they began mods, and he said yes, apparently grudingly. Key word is grudingly; Pixel didn't have a way to make it so his game couldn't be tampered with, how fair is it to him that people who are modifiying his heart and soul do?

Post that in the Cave Editor thread too, because it's an editor too.
Simple as that.

No no he's saying that the idea of a project file, which makes it so that others supposedly cannot edit the mod produced, is not good because it protects what we added to cave story which shouldn't be so, since if pixel's game is editable why shouldn't our mods be?

He's saying it's unfair to pixel because now we're trying to protect what's "ours" which is pretty much just what we took from him (the engine) with a few modifications.

Of course, this is under the assumption that the patching method makes it more difficult to mod the exe after the patch has been applied, which I've yet to see true.

Thank you Cheezer, that's exactly what I meant.

Well, that aside, hanging up in the air, can you get rid of the "autosave on close" that Sue's Workshop does? I don't like that.

Re: Sue's Workshop - Again in Development!

Hm, try this: open up Cave Story in SW. Open Cave Story in one of the windowed modes, because it makes this easier. Close SW, and it will say something like "Couldn't save all changes, the game may still be running."

Although, v0.3C is busted for me, so it may have been fixed in that one...

nawp, sorry.
I mean, it might give the message, but it doesn't save. (well, it asks first)
I tested it a few times.

Re: Sue's Workshop - Again in Development!

Well, shoot. I mean, of course it doesn't save, because the game is open, but I always noticed that the doukutsu icon would blink when I closed SW, meaning a change to the file. And viewing the properties would show that it was modified just a few seconds ago. Could be the version, then.

Well, SW stops using doukutsu.exe when it closes.....

SW does autosave on close, meaning it saves changes to the *.exe, however it does not autosave other files on close (it asks if you want to save them, if they've been changed).

Re: Sue's Workshop - Again in Development!

Yes, that. I haets it. Wrecked a game when I opened it in SW after saving in CE just to see how it screwed up. I thought it was CE's fault until I saw the autosave. Not as if that particular thing would be an issue with the new version, but it's irritating, especially because none of the other editors do it. At least I'm pretty sure Miza doesn't.

Re: Sue's Workshop - Again in Development!

It's my understanding SW is in the wrong by not conforming to .exe standards, but this isn't the place to war about that and I'm one to talk about following standards.

Bwah. I guess this falls under "things I don't understand". *Throws into a general direction that makes stuff fall and crash*

Where's SP, he still hasn't countered my beef with the project files. I'd like to hear what he has to say.

I have the flu and I had a fever. So I'm currently not in the mood to explain myself here.

Anyway, have a nice day. I may be back at the end of this week.

What are those boxes on the side for? TSC commands?

And, not like this is much important, but I really liked the way 0.5A looked before. It was purdy with the background and the... Can't remember anything else. Oh well.

But this applies to every editor and mod:

It doesn't only apply to project files.

I'm only doing this, because there was some "stealing" in the past (Mainly Images and Ideas). Even if it's "only a mod", the new content is copyrighted by it's respective Author. Plus there is a difference between making a game and stealing from other games; And making a mod and stealing from other mods.

CE and SW are both not using proper PE standards. And there is really no work around. PE standards would make the life very hard for editor programmers and would restrict hacking heavily.

Yes.

Yeah, I liked the way it looked too. But believe me, if it would be possible to make it look like that, I would have done that. I'm not totally sure how to make it look like the old one, I could go and ask Prof. Eich, but he isn't responding to anyone.
