Well, damn it, I hate unfinished projects. On the other hand, I have less spare time than ever, so it may not be for a little while before I pick this thing up again. I guess I can answer questions on the boards in the meantime, while I get back into this thing and remember where the heck I was taking the hack. Last thing I saw in there after replaying it were some grenades I had started to hammer into the game and a broken algorithm that caused them to get eaten up by the walls and explode off of the map instead of bouncing around...

I just want to say that I love you Rune.

...

Cake.

Indeed I have some questions D:

The cake... IS A LIE!!! O_O

I'm thinking I might make a advanced (ie, hex and/or basic assembly) Cave Story FAQ thread where people can post their questions. It would serve as a good general-purpose reference for people looking to do some oddball out-of-the-ordinary things with their own hacks, as well.

Anyhow. My current status with CS right now; I'm poring over the assembly dumps I have and sorting things out a bit. I found the code that renders the status screen and a bit of code used to display numbers; maybe I'll change the Original Sin's status screen around a bit like I originally intended. ;)

Currently, the "grenade" weapon is just a time bomb. But the real thing's an actual grenade that Quote throws. It bounces off of solid objects and after a delay, explodes.

The problem I was having was that, while it would bounce, after a while it would just bounce INTO solid objects, get horribly stuck, bounce back and forth rapidly, and sink into walls/floors before exploding.

...Which was kinda cool, come to think of it.

Well what are the odds of that >_>
Just looking through this thread at some things that were mentioned, but never resolved:
-The mimiga npc edits standing one pixel 'in the air': IIRC these are the npc's that appear after you fight the doctor in the normal game (i.e. the ones in the cages). I noticed this too when I was modding and I think it's done so that they look like they are standing on the floor of the cage, which is raised above ground level slightly.
And possibly more useful:
-The cheetah-like enemies slowing down when hit with the grenades: The grenades are an edit of the rocket launcher, and by that same token, these things are edits of the Armadillo enemies, which are immune to rockets; normally they will stop moving and guard when a rocket hits them. Thus these new enemies slow down when they are hit by the grenades.
Hope those help somewhat.
In other news, how's this main project of yours going? <_<

And why are all the threads still bumped if the posts have been deleted? :|

Where is the latest version of this? I read the first 10 pages or so, and it sounds interesting.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get an error when they try to start this?

Does the demo end at the entrance to the core, where you can get as many packs of three explosives as you like by reaching inside the bottom door?

I think that's because the one on SP's site is screwey in that it only contains the files that are modified. You need to copy all the original Cave Story files into the data folder, except the ones that are already there.
