• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Here's another piece I've done. It's not finished yet, but it's been a while since I've been inspired to work on it. It still sounds pretty neat the way it is though.

March of the Hero

@ Noxid: Sounds pretty good so far, sounds a bit sad really.

@ WoC: Pretty good rickroll, but as usual your style permeates from it. Just like the pokemon theme.

Also I finally got around to finishing that one org I made a while ago, so here it is (I may revise it though, depending on whatever I feel like):

Perfecta

@Nox: Wow, that was really nicely done; the best of your songs, I'd say. It didn't sound especially "march-like" to me, although the "hero" part fits better :p

@Gir: Oooohh, I love that song, you finished it? Cool, I'm glad you added a part where that main melody is on top, cause at the beginning it was kinda buried under the arpeggios. It's good to have both sections for contrast.

Eh? I'm pretty sure it has a file extension; it ends with ".org"

The file was named "....org" the name is "..." and the extension is "org" so when you put it together it's "....org"

Perfecta: Bouncy in a march kind of way, and epic with a capital E.

March of the Hero: Gave me a vision of a badly-bruised warrior standing to fight despite his wounds.

...Well, now I feel ashamed bringing mine in. I would never have the patience to make equally awesome songs, much less original ones. Oh well, at least this is better than the one I brought in before. Sticks to the time signature.

This is another Metroid song recreation, this time of Kraid. It likely only barely sounds like Kraid, but that's because I'm trying to sound out the main melody notes before I change instruments or do anything else. I'm also aiming for right between the original and Zero Mission. So this is sort of a "How's my recreating" thing.

"....org"
actually, there was a space in, so it was "... org". I force fed it to orgmaker and it worked, though, I don't see the whole fuss about having to rename it.

I'll comment on stuff in just a tad.

lessee, new version of perfecta was pretty dang good, definitely by gir, but still dang good.
The way it switched between melodies so quickly and not very transitionful sort of disoriented me, but I dunno, probably not a worldwide phenomenon.

hero march wasn't as hero marchy as I thought it was gunna be, more like something I could imagine kanpachi (a hero, nonetheless) fishing to, but still a great song.
of course, in game, it could be made much more heroesque by ambiance. I would've chosen different instruments, had it maybe a bit faster, and would've done more drums and a more significant baseline.
that is, if I could use this program.

...kraidor
I found this song discordant, slow, and hard to listen to. That being said, I can't really point out what exactly makes me not enjoy this song to it's full extent, although messing with the tempo and instruments seems to help. A good start though, next time maybe let your own creativity out and do an original song. mebby?

oh, I forgot to mention. march of the big ol hero sounds like something that would be in schism.

Sounds, well pretty horrible to be honest. It does vaguely resemble Kraid's theme, but it's really, really off. To demonstrate my point, here's what I made in about 10 minutes, based mostly off of the zero mission theme:

Kraid's theme

I'm not that familiar with the song, mostly know it from SSBM really. I should play the older metroid games D: . But yeah, almost all the notes in your version were off. So "Your recreating" isn't that great, sorry.

Oh, *that's* what I'm doing wrong in the second part. Okay. The trials of sounding things out by ear. Maybe I should use tabs.

Your first part is off too. D: Most of it's off. It takes practice. Shitloads of practice!

I would know, I've remade a lot of songs. Just keep at it, you'll get the hang of it if you keep trying. (And if you know any musical theory that might help ya a bit).

I would say he did most of the whole song wrong. He got the rhythms right, but the notes were off (most of them).

Well, when the beep follows the roll in the second variation, it should be lower, and each set of two beeps should be on the same line.

Gah, I'm not good with music. Why am I bothering.

Edit: Didn't notice a post above mine. The rhythms are right? Oh, that's good. Actually, bad because it might have been all I was paying attention to. But that's a start. About half the process. I feel better now.

Dang, that was pretty sexy :). The bit at the end with all the long notes was kinda weak imo, but other than that, great job!

Lol, a bit hard on yourself there? The song wasn't great but it definitely wasn't bad, and could maybe be developed into something really good. It also sounds like it could fit well in your mod, but you should know that orgs made with orgmaker version 2 are incompatible with the Cave Story engine. Orgmaker version 1 is available for download on the tribute site (cavestory.org), so if you think you wanna put custom music in your mod, then you'll want to download that.

Not neccessarily. I've done all my orgs in ORGv2, and as long as you follow the proper procedure they work fine. The big issue is that you have to set up your drums just so.

just so, being:
track Q: bass01
track W: Snare01
track E: HiClose
track R: HiOpen
track T: Tom01

and leave tracks Y, U, and I alone and don't use them at all.

Oh ok my bad. And actually that applies to orgmaker v1 as well. I would like to add that track 13 (called track Y in orgmaker v2) can be used as well; the sound that it will make is similar but not quite identical to Per01. Putting anything in tracks 14 or 15 (U or I) will crash the game.
