Quick Modding/Hacking Answers Thread

Okay. I have another problem..

I'm on Vista, normal account. CaveEditor just won't save. I've tried:

-Running it normally, in a different directory than Dokoutsu.exe
-Running it as an administrator, in a different directory than Dokoutsu.exe
-Running it normally, in the same directory as Dokoutsu.exe
-Running it as an administrator, in the same directory as Dokoutsu.exe

Any ideas why? I'm trying compatibility modes right now.

Uncheck the Read Only box in your mod folder's properties

I feel stupid not having checked that out now. x_X Thanks. I'm usually pretty computer savvy but didn't think about that.

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this forum site, and I'm working on a mod. I'd like to know.... How do you change the graphics in Cave Story using Booster's Lab?

You don't change them using booster's lab because it's not an image editing software
just edit the bmp/pbm files in the data folder with MS Paint, Paint.NET, etc.

Or you could use Cave Editor's handy dandy built-in .pbm editing software

You need a super-special grant from Noxid to allow you to gift to your mod the glory of 2xRes.
Your mod has to be exceptionally good or just have decent/unique art or something. Ask Noxid.

If you own CS+ then that is what is recommended
maybe if we get enough people trying it then some sort of documented methodology will arise.


ah, who am I kidding - i'll have to write that myself too :/

Unfortunately, you probably have to wait until that Booster's Lab issue is fixed.

You can also get someone who understands Java very well to crack open the JAR and rewrite some of the JVM
bytecode to make it work correctly. However, that would be pretty annoying, because it's
just like assembly-hacking the JAR file.
