I can't believe how quickly this thread got incredibly retarded. What an excellent way to convince DoubleThink that this is a good idea.

Sounds better than substituting words with "Aladeen".

Actually that one might not be a good one to uncensor because people might want to talk about people freaki ng out and they don't probably want to have their post changed to fucking out.

Oh boy. Now I get to swear a whole bunch by accident. :pignon2:

Although, I certainly didn't expect it to actually take off. It's honestly pretty neat! Not very often you find a forum with a reverse censor. :p

If you all prefer it this way(and I can definitely see why you would!), I'm willing to go along with it. I'll just post like I usually do and pretend the uncensor doesn't exist.

GOSH DARNIT TO hell!!! WHY ARE WE fucking' TALKING ABOUT THIS COW POOP!?!?!?!

In all seriousness, though, you can't control what comes out of people's mouths. However, I also believe that there are other words to use besides curses, and that the sailors can control what comes out.

The main reason I suggested this is because of the bullshit that twelve year olds always do, where they swear but cover it up with childish censors, like "shiz" instead of shit. It's the same damn thing as swearing, and should be treated the same way.

There have been a lot of studies that show that swearing decreases stress and frustration, and acts as catalyst for social solidarity. In an environment where using such words is not considered taboo (i.e. cstsf), to use so-called "safe" alternatives is simply going to alienate yourself from the general population and show that you aren't familiar with the local social customs.
from an uncited article on the internet, swearing can be used to:
Establish a group identity
Establish membership in a group and maintain the group's boundaries
Express solidarity with other people
Express trust and intimacy (mostly when women swear in the presence of other women)
Add humor, emphasis or "shock value"
Attempt to camouflage a person's fear or insecurity
a report on swearing in a tradesman/labourer work environment
a report on occurance of swearing in certain online communities

imo, words only mean as much as the people around you agree they do, so if everyone else believes it's okay to drop f-bombs once in a while then why the fuck wouldn't I?
