• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

EDIT: Well... crud.
I did the best my second time at 103 on the first map, then after that I was too impatient, and messed up once I was JUST before breaking the score with all the weapons... it's an endurance test...

The disc gun sucks.... lol

Scored 51 on the blue map after unlocking everything

Strategy:
Hide in safe spot and clear things out, dash for weapons and pray I don't get anything bad, repeat
Weapons:
(Each tier ordered from best -> worst)
Good Tier: Revolver, Machine Gun, Bazooka, Double Pistol
Usable Tier: Flamethrower, Minigun, Grenade Launcher, Shotgun, Katana
Bad Tier: Laser Rifle, Mines, Dics Gun
Currently debating on whether or not to continually reset any time I unlock anything past the Revolver

As of now I've gotten 47. No screenshot because it's late, I'm tired, and I'll improve it later.

Okay.... DAY 3, probably my last attempt, since this time it took a hour to play.
Will someone beat it!?

Here's the full livestream

And here's a sped up version :

(I like to think of Quote with the red hat character~)

EDIT: Oh yeah the score was 445

I'm having a lot more fun with this one than the last two. Current best score:
Also, does anybody's game freeze up after some time? This has happened to me a few times (like in my high score above...). After doing a quick Google search I still can't find a fix or anything.

Oh damn. Nice, X-Calibar.

EDIT: New score. EDITEDIT:

I'm not sure why the game would freeze up on you... Haven't had any trouble myself, using the Steam version. I think it's a Game Maker game, from seeing the loading screen.
Maybe you could play in windowed and see if you're running out of RAM (could there be a memory leak?), or try running it in some compatbility mode...

A quick look on google and I hear about crashing problems with older versions...
Not sure...

BUT, I found something interesting for SCB fanatics :
http://phlogiston.bandcamp.com/album/super-crate-box-special

A remixed album of Super Crate Box you can listen to for free.
Also, if you pay the 4$ to download it, you get a link to a Super Crate Box version with that music in it...

Great, so it must be Windows 8, then. Guess what? I got 225! Then the game crashed! The print screen button didn't capture it for whatever reason either! I was extremely pissed off when it froze when I was doing *that* good. I hope y'all can take my word for it.

Press random keys, Bill Gates was kind enough to make Prnt Scrn work after the game's display fades to a white tint.

DEAR FUCKING GOD it crashed again at 276. Luckily I have a photo this time.

In case you're wondering, I was trying it in compatibility mode, which is why the border looks different from last time.

I am determined to beat X-Calibar's score, but it obviously won't be possible if I have to nearly double my current score without it crashing.

Yeah I have the same flamethrower problem and I'm running windows 8, are you using the steam version? I'm thinking of seeing if the standalone download is more recent / better patched...

Also you guys kick all my scores in the ass

Ok well the best strategy I've found is definitely to reset your unlocks after every run. This would be more fun if it was a bit less of a gauntlet/time consuming per run though...

I'm running the stand-alone version. And no, I don't use the flamethrower. I have a backup save with only the revolver on it that I use whenever I play because every weapon after the revolver is shit. The crash usually happens when I use the Bazooka or Shotgun, particularly on the big enemies.

The scores are getting up there...!
Hmm... The standalone version has a missing dll for uploading scores; you can copy that over to the steam version.
Pretty sure it doesn't affects the crashing though...

@Tpcool
D: You might already have beaten me if not for that Win8 bug...
muahahaha...

I was looking around some more for the problem and someone said it's a problem with GameMaker and Win8...
http://steamcommunity.com/app/212800/discussions/0/864956555021701066/
http://steamcommunity.com/app/212800/discussions/0/882961586796995171/

Someone said to try this :
Here is a solution:
Switch from 24bit 96kHz to 16bit 48kHz in your sound output device.
Though it didn't work for other people... but that person claims it worked for him.
Without Win8 to test it on, I can't do anything to help though...

(virtualmachine!)

BTW, has anyone unlocked ambush mode? I can't even make it to 20 crates... That is the most frustrating thing since 3hp Cave Story Hell, the random falling brick corridor...

Well, some of you clearly are doing better than I am, so who am I to give you advice? But I'll share a strategy I like to use anyway, in case it helps anyone else. Sometimes when I get the mines, I like to set up a huge line of defense on all the lower platforms, and on the middle platform before getting the next crate, so that no enemies will be able to slip into the fire any time soon and I'll have some enemies automatically killed once I'm back to cycling through crates. I also try to replenish this line of defense whenever I get the mines again. Sometimes it can be a little bit risky to set it up, and sometimes the completion of its construction has induced cockiness in me, but if done right, it can help you last longer, from my personal experience.
