It's a forum bug I think. Happens sometimes if you use the new editor.

Matt should have double checked his post though, there's no excuse for that.

I don't think this is Matt's fault, it's not like you can catch everything and I know that I don't always check after I make a post
Also why are you going berserk over that I mean come on anyone can scroll up and see your original post

Sooo...
I puted some fence around the tree to let it
look more like the background. I´m still working on the colours.

I am in desperate, desperate need of advice. Please, help save lives by giving me advice so I will no longer produce such hideous mockeries of facepics.

It will save peoples eyes from burning out.

My first few questions is what are you aiming for? Do you want a realistic looking set of faces? Something unrelated to cave story?

Usually more cartoony pictures fit in better in small resolutions then actual human faces, which i assume is what you were aiming for.

I was aiming for a cartoony appearance. However this failed since the last art class I took was in elementary school.

There's your problem. >_>

Most people in this thread used the artstylings in cave story as a template, so maybe you can do that too. (Or from any game with sprites you like, really)

What I did originally was take the original faces, fill them in with black, and then redo them into whatever character I want. It's great for anatomy practice.

I will try that but, it will probably still end in disaster.
Thanks

'Kay...so...

I made an edited MyChar for my minimod, and...it kinda stinks.

I'm not a very good artist by any stretch of the imagination, so I'm surprised I managed to pull anything decent off, but it could still probably look a whole lot better. The down and back-facing sprites in particular could use some redoing, since they were the most rushed. Mostly the down sprites, though...

Anyway, here it is.

Don't blame yourself, you don't have many pixels to work with. You can at least recognise gardevoir in there.

Hallelujah, someone finally answered :critter:

Anyway, thank you! I don't blame myself - I know my limits - but at the same time, I can't really pin it all on the lack of space, either. Though that's certainly difficult to utilize...

I'm glad you can at least tell what it is. ^_^

I think the colors lack contrast and the green is way too bright and fugly. I really couldn't tell there was any shading at all until I zoomed in on it. Could also use a second shade on the white bit unless you're limiting yourself to quote's colors for some reason (despite the fact that you can probably use a lot more colors on an 8-bit image than that)

The body shape is alright I guess, although it looks more like it has a beak than whatever the heck the hair thing a gardevoir has is.

There should be some shadow on the hair and neck just below the face.

Alright, thank you both for your replies. :3

They made sense, but I wasn't sure how to go about doing it, since I'm such a neophyte at sprinting...

Nevertheless, this is what I got done today. I probably made it worse somehow, but whatevs. ^_^;

I like it so far. You might want to put some darkish shading directly underneath the hair, though. It looks a little odd without it.

What? No I mean a pixel below the hair, so it doesn't look like the hair is painted on. You would just need to take a color that is somewhat darker than the skin color.

The face has a gradient of pixels in it. That's bad. The 10 different shades of almost the same color need to just be the same color. Also the green you are using needs to be closer to blue than yellow. It'll give it a nice minty feel.
