Because, there is one small problem with the gunsmith making a blade.
HE'S A GUNSMITH. HE CREATES FUCKING GUNS, NOT BLADES.

Now when Wedge made it easier for us, I actually didn't miss a single thing. Just that Lace confused me a lil' with his confusion. I'm just disappointed that my friends who are more and actually more hentai than me actually don't know anything about 69.
