Moonsong was among one of the first tracks I heard that got me into Cave Story in the first place. My ultimate favourite, though, has been "Living Waterway". Something about the pulse and simplicity, how it fits in with the area and yet I still like to listen to it in my own time, oh, and I like both the original and the "new" version of it.

But yeah, there are many great Cave Story tracks. In fact, it's a lot easier for me to name the ones I don't like as much vs. the ones I really like! :p

This was a thing that happened semi-recently
Oh come on DT, let achibikitsune have his fun. We all know that these kinds of generic threads are always going to pop up every 6-18 months or so.

Gestation is quite overlooked, I feel. It has a nice atmosphere, it fits the mood quite well, the way it rises and falls. The way it shows up again in later areas gives a nostalgic feeling, a sense of completeness. I'm probably not making any sense, but still, Gestation was very nice.
Plant and Cemetery, too. They're short, but fit the areas very well and were nice.

My favorite track is probably Geothermal. It sets the mood really well and makes you feel like something isn't right, perfect for what happens next.

Oppression and Running Hell are my favorite ones. After being around Cave Story for so long, I have become jaded to so many of the often played songs. One of the unfortunate side effects of having played so many mods is that songs like "Cave Story" and Gestation become instantly boring, no matter what context I listen to them in. I may like Oppression and Running Hell because they aren't use quite as frequently in mods, but they're also just really good, blood-pumping songs in general with great climaxes (which should be surprising to nobody since I enjoy Mega Man music :p). I agree with what zxin said about Oppression's instrumentation; the song uses a lot of the ear-piercing guitars, but somehow does so in a way that makes it sound epic. Running Hell isn't really a particularly noteworthy song... until of course it reaches two-thirds of the way through, then the best part plays and the buildup instantly becomes worth it.

In terms of soundtracks, I've really been warming up to the Wii/New soundtrack the past few years. It has a lot of hidden gems, and I find that almost the entire soundtrack works in extremes: there are a huge chunk of songs that are absolutely butchered by the new melodies and instruments, but there are also a whole bunch of other tunes that are easily the best rendition of their respective song. Remastered is solid all-around, but didn't leave a large impression on me. I haven't listened to the Famitracks yet, but I feel like it'll be the same way.

Both versions of Sandzone which pixel authored are my favourites. (Though I like the Cave Story soundtrack all around.) Each iteration of the Sandzone track is special and fun to listen to in their own way, SZ2 (the one in the final game) is more energetic and adventurous while SZ1 (the previous version) is more hopeful and reflective of Cave Story's tale. They're equally as effective at conveying what Sandzone is all about.

Cemetery also manages to be good no matter which version of the soundtrack you listen to, so there's another point.

My absolute favourite would have to be Hero's End. It starts with loss and ends with hope.

My absolute favorite is probably either last battle or On to Grasstown/Bushlands. I like Last battle because of the sheer energy, and the way On to Bushlands builds up overtime is something I really enjoy. the entire soundtrack is amazing to me, though. The fact that there are 5 official remixes of the entire soundtrack shows how amazing it is.

I can't wait for the official country, nightcore, speedcore, R&B, classical, dubstep, rap, hip hop, vaudeville, jazz, orchestral, vaporwave, death metal, pop, terror, reggae, floppy drive, Genesis soundfont, Keygen, traditional Japanese, bossa nova, rumba, cumbia, mariachi, breakcore, marching band, Michael Jackson, Vocaloid, and midi versions of the Cave Story soundtrack!

Tyrone, I hope you're reading this! [/sarcasm]

I heard rumors that the Michael Jackson remix is set for the next time NICALiS updates CS+
