How about you're allowed to ASM, but any ASM hacks must be your own and made after the start of the contest.
This is more fair IMO

That still removes the challenge of trying to make a mod without doing asm, which is what zxin may be aiming at.
Sometimes you just gotta learn to work with the resources you have, so you can prove yourself more.

That's just MORE unfair to people who don't know assembly. 90% of hacker story was written after the contest began by myself so this barely would have been a hindrance at all.

Yeah but there's no way that anyone would want to play my mod outside of hacks. I simply cannot perfect anything else. Before I learned ASM I tried everything I could, and my mod just turned out to be complete shit. At least ASM allows me to make my mods even remotely good

 

that's why people are yelling at you to get out of your comfort zone
it's not like you'll just magically be good the first time you try but if you never practice then you're fucking yourself

 

I'm gonna clear up a few things now so that this doesn't go on forever

-This contest is allowed to happen, unchangeable exe or not, there will be no 'official' ruling against it

-It's up to the entrants to decide if they want to spend time here, and how that may cut into their participation of whatever's going to happen after it

-Seeing as there aren't even any prizes on the line there's nothing for anyone to to gain from getting aggravated over this aside from maybe their dignity

It seems this year we're going small.

Woah hold on, I think a lot more people are going to participate in Dunc's summer 2017 modcon simply because of timing schoolwork out of the equation.

I'm going to attempt both, and I feel the others (who are very few) who have shown interest shouldn't be afraid to put a "simple" mod in with that contest as well.

Overall this is a challenge contest/warmup I guess. There will be like 3 people participating, and you can fucking have multiple contests in a year.

Yes, I am still interested in being a judge. The same time constraints listed before still apply, so I probably won't actually play any early entries that may be submitted until probably early May, but feel free to give me any type of briefing you'd like.

 

@Miccs are you still interested in judging this year?

I don't see why i wouldn't have time to play a few mods and tell what i think about them, it'd give me something to do.

Whelp. My short entry is nearly done. I just have to design one more level and apply the final touches.

 

I would love to submit but I can't even start working on it until June, my computer is stuck with Linux
If the deadline stays as it is, I can be a judge.

 

I don't have any particularly strong opinions, but you could consider extending the deadline to late May since a lot of people will be busy until early May. I'll probably still be able to serve as a judge, but I will have a little bit less free time starting late May.
