Hi there.
The Hack9 game gave me an idea.
Why not make a Community Project?
A fan sequel. I already asked Pixel for permission.
I could do the coding, but I would need some people for the art.

Lead:
- S. P. Gardebiter
- Free

Coding:
- S. P. Gardebiter

Mapping:
- Django, Black Evil

Spriting/Images:
- jcys810
- Lyger

Music/Sound:
- rtnario

Story writing:
- Roonil Wazlib

Alpha/Beta testing:
- Lace (Windows XP)
- jcys810 (Windows Vista)
- Schokobecher (Ubuntu Linux 64-bit)
- Tadashi (Gentoo Linux 64-bit)
- Django, Black Evil (GP2X)
- Free

Well, I guess for spriting jycs and andwhyisit would be fine if they want to join :p
Story writing or writing dialogues... I suggest Kage for that, if he likes to join as well.
Anyone else who wants to help just contact me per PM or post in this thread :(
I can compile it for Windowsx32/WinCE/Linux/Macintosh/GP2X/XBOX.
I really would need some betatesters for that.

I forget something:

People who work with me (Spriting, Music and so on): May request a build at any time and may (if they like to) try to help me with the engine. They may play new versions.

Beta testers: May request a build at any time and should try to help me with the engine. They have to play new versions.

How to help me with the engine:

- Point out whats wrong with it.
- Give me some examples (Jumping in CS was faster/jumping in CS was 1 pixel every secound) something like that.
- If possible give more instructions.

I'll sign up for spriting/images and alpha/beta testing.

My stories are usually odd, I don't mind contributing bits here and there, but a full role, I don't really think I wanna.

I use Windows Vista, so I could do testing for Vista.

Very good, post suggestions just in this thread :p
Me and Justin are currently discussing the player character.
I'm all for 3 playable characters and unlockable characters in multiplayer (splitscreen or something, maybe net too) :(

Well, the story will be written by the community, that's for sure. Whatever will whoever post here, it will be heavily discussed over and 90% of it changed. You can as well post some ideas here and just take notes.

Could I help with the story? :p

[PS: I mean, if there's already someone doing the main story idea, I'll be proofreader or something or just someone who points out flaws in storyline, if any. I really suck at idea-generating >_<]

PS: couldn't we rope in the Greatest RuneLancer too? O_o

Roonil for proof reading.

A tester for GP2X would be nice, so you're in Django! :p

I've already come up with a possible reason for a Cave Story 2. It's up to everyone if it sounds like a good idea. Gardebiter hasn't really said anything yet about it, so it's up to all the users to speak their minds about this. To summarize it, there is more than one Mimiga Island.

Ballos created multiple islands so he could do experiments on the life inside it, as well as to ressurect himself if the need ever came. Jenka found out eventually about this, and as a result, sealed Ballos away on one of the islands. She stayed on the island to make sure that Ballos wouldn't break out. The destruction of the core (from CS obviously) released a surge of energy that unlocked the other islands and reveal them to the world. In doing that, Ballos' soul (or the remnants of it) attempt to resserect Ballos's body using the other islands. Jenka and Misery appear to Quote in order to tell him (as well as Curly and Balrog) that Ballos is attmpting to ressurect himself and Quote and Co. must stop him, for the power of the other islands is much greater than the power that Ballos had when he was sealed in one of the islands.

Phew... I hope that people like this idea. It is full of plot holes I know, but it is just a basic concept.

I could also do some testing under Linux and sometimes throw in some game design suggestions.

hrm, you don't have a windows xp tester yet, I could do that.
and by coding do you mean tsc, or hacking?
I might also be able to provide some ideas, but no full fledged storyline.

and the storyline is pretty good, i just don't really like the idea of ballos ressurecting himself. there should be other villains.

I could test it in XP myself :p
But allright you're in.

TSC ≠ Coding
TSC = Scripting

Hacking ≠ Coding (Well not exactly)
Hacking = Hacking

Coding = Programming

I agree with that.

Plus I would like to have a Mimiga military organisation like there was in Crowned Witch. They are fighting monsters and sometimes also old robots or even humans.

I think he thought you would do a HACK of CaveStory.
So for everyone: it's a complete own game based on an own engine :p

Things I'd like have included:

Story elements:
  • Who is Quote's creator
  • The organization behind the research team the Sakamotos lead.
  • A good reason why Quote hasn't his cool weapons anymore (if the player controls Quote at all)
  • Mr. Little getting drunk
  • Jack's Fate
  • Baby Mimigas (ó.ò) *awwww*
  • Some Robots of the same kind that invaded the Island 10 years ago.

Gameplay:
  • A bit more backtracking

Engine:
  • Support for additional languages
  • Fully configurable controls for keyboard and gamepads.

Gameplay:
-How about a vehicle?
-Depending on how massive the game is, maybe an inventory that can scroll? Thus with room for theoretically infinite items... not really, of course, but more than can fit on screen at once, at least...

Engine:
-Options to turn off music, sound, etc.

All I can think of at the moment. Tadashi's suggestions for the story elements look good.
