Spammers griefers and the like can get to normal servers just as easiliy.
Cracked servers also have white/blacklists and can have any plugin normal servers can have.

He's not going to "crack" the server (set an option in server.properties). Ask your mom to buy the game or stop whining.

A cracked server is a server running in offline mode. This allows for anyone to log in as anyone. For example, if someone(not Joe) tried to log in as Joe,the server would disconnect the doppelganger. However a offline server would let the imposter on, allowing him to grief all he wants, and Joe gets banned for it.

Password plugin prevents that.
Also there is a way for a server to be both cracked and normal at the same time.
