That's odd... You walk towards the wall, but the wall isn't there. You're sure you should've already been at the wall, because you remember smashing into it. You get an uneasy feeling.

Turn around and walk back to the boulder, then use the signpost to pry the puke hat out.
You certainly won't be able to pull the signpost out of the boulder, but you get a better idea.
You climb onto the boulder and jump on the sign, using it as a lever.
CRASH! Well, at least you can finally get your old hat.
Oh, hey, it's your old friend, and he brought others as well! And, boy, they look pissed.

um, you wake up and realize that you're in a plantation. someone has shoved a large blue mushroom into your mouth.
if that is too cave story-y, you wake up under the boulder, with a shroom dancing on your face.

You wake up in a cave (not a Cave Story reference), surrounded by sentient mushrooms. You are still wearing your cool hat, and your inventory hasn't been touched, since the mushrooms don't know where you're keeping that stuff either. However, those candy corns have worn off, and you're hungry. Not to mention you can't see your hat helmet.
