• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

DID SOMEBODY SAY ANIME?

Oh and did somebody say Cartoons :(
Personally, I classify cartoons as non-japanese animation targeted at younger audiences. You know .. What's up doc? That's a classic cartoon example. Then there are Disney cartoon movies, *classics* like Cinderella, Bambi etc etc
That is the classic image I get when somebody says cartoons.

I like to say anime as if to try to emphasize it's different from Cartoons. Because, it is; even if cartoons actually apply to anime. But, anime usually carries more not suitable for children examples.

Anime is anime though when it comes to movies or series. Just one is made for TV, while another is made for video or the theaters.
And finding good series, eh well there are tons out there; and personally I look up the ones that either catch me by design and plot or have high ratings.

Here are a few examples of ones I recommend : (most are rated A)
Aura Battler Dunbine Season 1 was awesome.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2155.php

Record of Lodoss War OVA is what got me into Anime.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/949.php

Kenshin as a whole series and movies had some really great moments. It had stuff that was dragged out too long, but there were some really great moments. And the character went from child to passing, which is a lotttt of time to get to know characters and a setting~
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/659.php - OVA
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/643.php - TV

MegaZone 23 part 1 was really awesome. It was freakishly 80s or something with some parts, but it was great animation.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/3039.php

Irresponsible Captain Tylor is love or hate lol He's the primere starship captain in anime as far as I'm concerned lol
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/395.php - TV

Gundam 08th MS Team had some nice moments. Probably the only Gundam I can say as a whole I'd like to revisit.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/359.php

Slayers Season 1 [only one I've seen so far] had some amazing moments that reminded me of games like Baldur's Gate... which for me was a plus lol I was unexpectdly happy with Lina Inverse lol OH and there is one episode that really blew me away in that season...
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/6366.php

Gankutusou : The Count of Monte Cristo was an excellent anime. Lots of different stuff here.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/4393.php

The Melancholy of Haruhui Suzumiya was something flashy and fun. Watched it in original Japanese broadcast order, which kept me guessing...
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/6272.php

Princess Tutu was amazing, despite people not liking the wierd name :p
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/3646.php

El-Hazard the Magnificent World OVA is one of my favorite anime, and the one I've rewatched the most and it never gets old.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/299.php

Fushigi Yugi ~ The Mysterious Play had my interest in wondering what was going to happen the whole series.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/324.php

Card Captor Sakura seems to be a great light hearted girl's anime.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/201.php

Azumanga Daioh was wicked ... lol
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2882.php

Berserk was a nice series. It ended far too soon though. Hope they do a Season 2 someday...
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/940.php

Hellsing was alright, it was a fun quick anime. VAMPIRE!
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/982.php

Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex S1 and 2 I recommend a lot. I enjoyed those characters, although a few parts got pretty psycho.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/3090.php

Perfect Blue was amazing when I watched it the first time. Amazing. Scary.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/548.php

Macross Plus was a great OVA. To this day it is one I still want to see again.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/440.php

Devil Lady is a great one as well. Very different horror.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/1690.php

NightWalker was ok, it was worth seeing. Love them Vampires. It's one of those you'll love or hate. I love it but it was short.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/522.php

Read or Die TV had some of the best action I remember, but I found the climax unlikable... Good series nonetheless.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2932.php

Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok has some good stuff going for it. It is missing that cut-throat edge other anime use, but it feels like solid value anime.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/4562.php

Those Who Hunt Elves, is ridiculous and silly and I recommend it. Ready, Set, STRIP! [... lol no adult rated titles in here btw]
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/750.php

Anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain are oddity anime, which are worth seeing and may be your thing; very weird but worth looking into.
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/3087.php - NGE
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/687.php - SEL

S-cry-ed is the best fighting anime I know of. It makes me want to BEAT YOU UP! COME GET SOME!
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2061.php

Dragon Ball Z uh I enjoyed the Freiza Saga, that was where I came into the DBZ saga; I thought the whole Freiza vs Goku battle was really something and awesome. I read somewhere that is where it was intended to have ended... But it kept going and going and going and ... going....
I never really watched Pokemon... I though Ash and Team Rocket etc were pretty amusing... But, I only have seen like 3 or 4 episodes total. aFter hundreds of episodes of the same I might change my opinion :p
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/1299.php - DBZ Freiza [Goku goes Super! (the first time)]

Oh and I watch almost all of my anime in Japanese with english subtitles~!
Only a select few do I love in english as well... [Chobits and Lodoss are the only two I know right off lol]

Those are the anime I recommend, although there are tons more I like. [since I like almost all that I watch lol] But these are great ones.

As for anime movies, eh.. the only ones I know and can sincerely recommend would be Perfect Blue, and Macross Plus. [which can be an OVA or a movie]

Yeah there are some anime that are just better in Japanese, but there are also really good dubbed anime out there, it depends on the anime.

"Full Metal Panic Fomuffu" and the first half of "Trigun" are funny as. :p

Still I think the japanese cartoon-movies and anime should be catogorized differently.
How about "Japanese animated movies," at least? "Cartoon" generally has the connotation of non-Japanese child-oriented animation, as stated by X-Calibar.
Eh...I guess it doesn't really matter. *shrug*

Chobits!!
I liked Chobits pretty much... Chi??? CHI!!!
English voices sounded very good in that one too...

Ohhhhh btw, the anime I'm recommending at the moment is...
UTAWARERUMONO, yeah Utawarerumono...
Uta ware ru mono !!
I haven't seen the anime yet... [....] but I just played the game and read reviews and bought the anime. In some ways the game was as epic as Xenogears in my opinion... But, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy shorter and too limited in options to touch Xenogears... but still, it's best game I've played in a while; and like I said since I doubt anybody will spend 70$ or more to get the game imported :D

The anime is supposed to rock as well !
Utawarerumono is the series with a funny name that just gets better and better with every minute. The show certainly piqued our interest from the start but along the way it become incredibly engaging and has been one of the best fantasy oriented shows in the last few years, if not more due to the dearth of such shows. While it has its moments that play to the masses with fanservice and animals, at its core it's a great little political piece within fantasy elements. The cast is engaging, it expands at just the right rate without minimizing too many of the characters and has some interesting story plots to work with. If anything can be said it's that it feels like too much is happening too quickly in terms of story elements. Utawrerumono is a series that deserves a lot more attention and shouldn't be waited on for a collection release. The omake theater episodes in the previous releases alone are worth the price of entry. Don't miss this series.

:( :( :( Oh... I really wish they would have gone Square/Enix Final Fantasy production sized on this game... I would have loved to explore their world a little more...
Nothing against games like FFX and even FFXII ... but, this game would have made me go crazy for games all over again

Aww crap, they beat me to it.

EDIT: I just watched the OVA, it's on youtube.
Interestingly enough, the spell at the end that ends up destroying most of the island is one word: 'Ballos'. No kidding.

if they were the same, yeah. cave story=cartoon.

Rule 34 definition:
Generally accepted internet rule that states that pornography or sexually related material exists for any conceivable subject.

Additionally it is accepted that the rule itself has limitations and you cannot be too specific on the content of the item in question.

i can believe that rule o.O"

but im not sure what you mean rule 34ing youve done to cartoons :D

Oh God. The stupidity. It’s overwhelming.

Kaseo, please cease being so stubborn. Your terminology is not what is generally accepted by the masses, and, because of this, you’ve set yourself up to be one huge embarrassment just waiting to happen. Really, it doesn’t matter what terms you yourself think should be applied to objects, only what the public uses as the general term, and, in this case, what the creator himself designates as the medium. Your stubbornness in this matter is an aloft sign proclaiming your ignorance. Please reevaluate your terminology.

He calls him as he sees em. :D

Yeah, I do get pissed off when people refer to all kinds of animation as cartoons. Technically, only the ones made for the purpose of random humour are cartoon (so Batman and Scooby Doo are not cartoons, just animation series).

But for some reason I don't mind Kaeso as mutch since he knows the difference, just has a different terminology. It really doesn't matter mutch.
