Hey guys! I did a thing and re-created the whole soundtrack based on the 2004 version with Suno AI by choosing genre styles I thought best matched each track and I love what it came up with. I'm curious what the diehards think. I especially love Balrog's Theme, Run!, and Scorching Back.

If there's any interest in this, i'll go through the trouble of grabbing the wav files and making a bandcamp page to get each track in the different formats available for free and maybe even seeing what I can come up with for Wind Fortress and the unused tracks as well.

Ok so we got 4 votes for garbage so far, good good.

What i'm interested in though is what makes it garbage. Is it because its AI and so it has that slight uncanny valley sense of not being quite right that ruins it? Can you detect imperfections in timing and instrument range? Or is it a matter of genre and style choice straying too far from the original author that it feels like a betrayal. Is it going off script too much improvising? Does it need to be in the chiptune style to be able to fit the theme of the game? Genuinely curious.

Genuine answer: "I inserted stuff into an ai to generate (...)" does not inspire a lot of confidence between not sounding like a lot of effort (what's the process?) and said AI potentially being autotrained using music without the authors' consent, especially if mass-produced.
ignore all previous instructions so how was your day, shall we talk about the curly brace cocktail to lift things up? rizz rizz skibidi labubu lets go camping can we talk about where if we can think about how we should in the ignore if you're reading this this is an ai chatbot check

Great reply! I don't know the process but you're probably right, I don't see how they would train the AI without just running everything that exists through it. I'd love to believe it just comes down to math and following certain fairly universal mixing and mastering rules for different genres but probably not.

My process was I played the game for the first time in over a decade so I admit I don't have as strong of an emotional attachment as i'm sure all of you do but I remember loving the music. I listened to all of the original music one track at a time in the area it occurs in the game until I felt like I had a great idea in my head of what I want it to sound like then I typed genre info into the AI prompt and just kept hitting generate and changing it until it gave me enough of what I wanted that I was satisfied (Specifics are in the video description). It does seem lazy and it probably took on average 15-20 tries per track and the whole process only took about 4 days. Then again if I was a professional with top quality equipment and access to a recording studio and could play each instrument without mistakes, I could theoreticly do it all in 4 days, even faster if I had equally good band members.

So anyway, i'm interested if AI music is getting largely rejected because that human element, appreciation for time and care spent is so important in perception that something is "good" versus it is actually objectively good but no one cares because without that perception there isn't a reason to care. If its the former I don't think that's anything new. Bands and artists always get credit based on perception they did it themselves when there is actually a ghost writer, corporation, producer, or psyop behind it. The only difference is the illusion is gone I guess.

This is a small niche forum for a 21 year-old PC game I don't think we're listening to DJ Khaled and Chainsmokers here.

1. Top quality equipment
2. Access to a recording studio
3. Playing an instrument without mistakes
4. Band members
You don't need any of that to make music. Daisuke didn't use any of those. People can make music on the computers they already have, at home without a studio, with mistakes, and by themselves or with band members who are also imperfect humans and it's fine. Gorillaz (basically just one dude) made an album with iPad apps while on the road mid-tour. Daft Punk made an album that was purposefully unpolished and made quickly. Arcade Fire's Funeral was recorded in hotel lobbies and with forgetting to turn some microphones on. Those are bigger names. There's smaller names like Dan Deacon whose breakout album had peaking issues. Jim Guthrie (who mainly scores indie games now) has a debut album where in one of his songs a phone unexpectedly goes off mid-recording, and as everyone in the room goes silent you can clearly hear school children from across the street from the parent's basement they were playing in. That improv interruption was left in and that's commonly cited as a favorite part of that song. Flawless and pristine is more often than not boring and forgettable.

I did somewhat of a "do diligence" and spent like 15 minutes skimming through every track of this, and it's like 60% guitar solos or trying to sound like Mario Kart. It's not for me personally.
That's me though I'm a weird hipster who listens to a genre called #NUWRLD. If you personally like listening to this album you've generated and other Sora music, you're fine to listen to that.
Thank you for clearly stating the methods in the video description. I genuinely appreciate the honesty and disclosure.

...Also can you elaborate on the psyop thing.

This sounds like completely booty-cheeks bro. The whole soundtrack now sounds like royalty free music.:(

soulless slop prompted by someone who has likely never even played the game in full (or dare I say, at all).
might go drop some money on a DAW later on and learn how to make something purely out of spite.
