Add spikes to the set somewhere non-problematic.
It wouldn't be a problem with Tyrone, he just wanted no new graphics for consistency's sake, so adding already-existing spikes to a set would be nbd. If they are off of the main tileset area, then it shouldn't interfere with other people's work.
