• Please stop embedding files/images from Discord. Discord has anti-hotlinking logic in place that breaks links to Discord hosted files and images when linked to from anywhere outside of Discord. There are a multitude of file/image hosting sites you can use instead.

unexpectedly did not have class today and i've finished all current pending coursework (yippee!!!) so i got around to some internal housekeeping re. evergreen - finally set up an infinite org system (with thanks to periwinkle!) which was long overdue as evergreen's list of custom songs have been growing and i was running out of vanilla tracks to replace LOL. realising i'd accidentally overwritten an already replaced org was the kick up the ass i needed, and i've also finally organised the copies i kept in the dev folder as well as tidied up the credits... ah, which, speaking of - i suspect my next task may be to finalise some placeholder assets in the in-game credits, since the impending release of DELTASOON(tm) means i doubt i'll find any playtesters (or have the time myself) over the next week, lol

also at some point i will decide on a 'proper' tracklist, both since i want to release the soundtrack as mp3s (if permission from the musicians is granted) but also to tidy up the OrgView - undecided if i want to have two OrgViews (one with vanilla tracks, one with original) or just one (with original tracks), but we'll see, i suppose. not something i care to divert too much attention to until the mod is fully complete!

-on the pixel's works overview page, under gekiai, typo: 'colab' -> 'collab'
-under megane, it may be worth mentioning that darkman (kuroihito) now goes by room_909
-the page for haru to shura could use a bit of a blurb or description of the game's contents, like there is for most other games here
-in works lost to time, it may be worth including the description for pixwatch that rain found on the archive (mentioned in the dev. room pixel discord)

There's this press release on Raindrop Sprinters where room_909 (Shuhei Miyazawa) says he used to go by the handle name 'kuroihito', which literally translates to 'darkman'.
For Haru to Shura, how about this: "Haru to Shura is a side-scrolling story-focused adventure game where you play as Chihiro, a high-school student with chronic medical issues filled with uncertainty about the future. Returning from a doctor's appointment during spring break, you suddenly find yourself being ferried to a mysterious land called Eden, where there is no suffering or fear of any sort... but is there more to this place than meets the eye? ok like realistically though what sequence of events would need to play out in order for the player to learn of exdeath's doings ahead of time and be like "ok guys we're gonna fuckin flank him watch", or even better yet try and figure out like what caused him to come into being, The Void is a kindof recurring thing throughout the series and there's another villain with a similar sounding name in another one of the Final Fantasy titles, so the rationale was a lot more well-put than the game's writings initially let on I suppose. There's probably deeper symbolism rooted to the characters but I wouldn't necessarily know the origin of it. I just know that Galuf and Exdeath could probably just settle things out in like a grilling competition or something bc that sounds like a healthier compromise with their respective ideals given they both really fucking like violence for some unknown reason??

I mean either way there's a particular 2022 game that kinda made me cynical of lengthy games with a 'golden ending' if you follow triggers along the way to the end.
It kinda really invalidates choices that don't lead to that ending as well as any other ending on account of not being the 'true' ending, why would i then still want any other possible ending anymore.

Granted I'm a bit more okay with it as far as how it is like in games like Atelier but Arland has burned me hard on that last year as well.

But the what ifs are still fun to play with of course, don't know about the movie though but that's also because it felt like a bizarre thing that I admittedly haven't fully watched.

chatting about horror games earlier with a friend reminded me i want to make a horror-focused cave story mod again one day... 'they have been reset' (which was a collab with jpzarde) was a lot of fun to do but i think there's a lot more potential to make Scary Thing in the CS engine(s?) - there's an idea i've had for a long time but i will keep it secret for now in case i do eventually make it one day (smiles). my friend bonnie's 000000 was really good (fearlessly shilling) but it's one of the few non-joke horror mods i can think of - definitely an underutilised genre, which is unfortunate

i do have plans to make the final area for evergreen's true ending horror-adjacent, but we'll see how much i lean into that? i suspect it will likely draw more from stuff like psychonauts, undertale's true lab/photoshop flowey or omori's blackspace, that sort of (mostly) quietly bizarre/unsettling mismatched aesthetic rather than Ahh Rahhh Blood Guts Jumpscare!!! (i guess you could call it yume nikki-esque? something along those lines) - essentially a focus on unnerving the player rather than outright scaring them. ultimately though whatever it is will come down to what i can wrangle out of the freeware engine and my own art skills...

also speaking of i think i'm ready to release that playtester build for the first final boss but it seems i may have to wait a couple weeks since i need to focus on a project for school due next week and then like a day or two after THAT is deltajune... aghhhhhhhh toby fox you've done it again!!!

...yeah actually you're completely right. Then you gotta test the final boss...and then the ending...and then if one thing goes wrong in the ending, you gotta do the final level and final boss AGAIN...and then you decide the cutscene isn't good enough so you remake it...so you have to play the level again to get to the boss and then you realize you made the dialogue too long on one line and it skips a line and now you gotta fix that because it throws everything out of whack (not with a wet trout, something worse)...then...you finally got it all done. Then the playtesters say the fight is too hard. So now you gotta balance it. And you gotta play it ALL AGAIN. Idk if there's any specific horror out there that matches the headache this all is...:greydroll:
