• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Why is Quote a mute?

Yeah, pretty much. Only that voice doesn't really sound human, so maybe Curly's voice isn't as realistic as Quote's. Which is ironic, since we never "hear" Quote, only her.

But it makes sense, which is why we're here in the first place.

Because the internet is serious business?

I really can't think of any way to get back on topic without just repeating the whole thing. Sorry.

Nor do I.

Hmm... retopicing mute heroes, I've noticed a thing while playing Golden Sun 1 & 2 (not as good as FFV but is possible to play on the bus), in game 1, the main character is Isaac, who is silent all the time (except when saying "yes" or "no" to stuff, which ONLY affects the next line of dialogue...), and Felix has a few lines. In GS2, you play as Felix, who is (except when saying "yes" or "no" to stuff, which ONLY affects the next line of dialogue...), and when you meet Isaac, he has lines.

Why can't the main character speak? Hey, I don't have trouble identifying myself with talking heroes (unless they're way to odd, e.g. loves to kill hamsters with miniguns or sumzin' worse...).

Anything that the main character would say would be either characterization or something the player already knows. In games where the nature of all the characters is only secondary, it's just better to have the main character not talk. Plus it lowers the amout of text in the game.

You're bitter 'cause it's true. Void Mage Lowell could have been a mute mage. Silent protagonists get all the ladies. The more you the less chance there is of you having a hot female companion. For example, Half Life 2.
And in Halo, the Master Chief kept talking during the cutscenes, so he just gets a computer. There's a punishment and reward system.

Couldn't that be avoided, if I just put in a female companion myself?
It is my mod...
.
Besides, you don't know of the events that transpire with Lowell, before/after he gets stuck in Cave Story....
:D
{There will be more mods, more games.....Bwhahaha...}

Besides, I'm sure I could pull up examples of talking protagonists that get female companions...
If I was really bored...

It was a joke. Talking protagonists are much more common than silent ones, and there's babes in just about every game.
Even Tetris.

Lol that's easy enough. The winner in that category would have to be Duke Nukem, although it's more or less tons of babes that he gets.

Which reminds me of the upcoming game, conveniently named DN forever since it's taking forever to finish.

I think so many unsilent characters lost their cool once they've said things (e.g. Sonic), that it removes the courage of developers to having their characters speak.

Oh, sorry for my weird way of putting things.
