Well, I'll leave it largely open.
Pretty much anything mechanical-looking.
Some sprites I could use would be a replacement for the Drolls and Red Demon (something farm-equipment-y), and for the Night Spirit (something robotic-spider-esue; should kinda crawl downwards).

Um...for some reason curly asked me for my gun in the middle of the fight and it still kept going and stuff.

And the red devil surprised made me laugh so hard.

and then the table guard robot killed me.

night spirit: what should it be launching? i see it launching white bolts in the game... should i keep it that way?

drolls/demon: could you be more specific? there's all sorts of farm equipment. should it resemble something? should it just be an amalgation that looks dangerous? should it look mad-sciency or magic-zombie-machine-ish?

also, woot. i finally made it through that last defense thing with the blocks. probably wouldn't make it without the chainlaser... and what would i even do if i'd given the gun to curly and taken the enviro suit instead of the laser?
.. nasty thought. maybe it'd be nice to create an alternative to the basic matrix if you give it to curly... finding a sharp piece of metal and using it like a knife, melee-only so you don't have to waste ammo on destructibles.

Yeah, the Rotten Roast can be a toughy.
Especially since it zeros your weapons.
And, uh, maybe you should open some valves to relieve the pressure.

As for the little tufty-things from the original night spirit are largely fine, though a tweak to make them look like web or something might work.

As for the weapons, giving Curly the Basic Matrix isn't really worth it, personally I'd keep it.
And taking the Chainlaser is only really for inexperienced players.
I'd love to have some sort of melee weapon, like a Blade hack, but that's a little beyond my skill level.

You know, I should probably state this now.

I, for the majority of my early life, played DragonWarrior.
And, although you probably can't believe it, my mod has something in common with DragonWarrior:

INVESTIGATE EVERYTHING!
Hell, do it twice sometimes.
There are very, very, VERY few things in this game that are just decoration.
So if it sparkles, glitters, or seems oddly coloured for the location, shoot it or interact with it.

 

a game should be playable without prior knowledge other than the controls... that's why i mentioned it. in the original cave story, agreeing to stuff never inconveniences you. same goes for most other popular games. people just don't like having to revert to a previous savegame because they didn't know they -had- to pick another choice there for the noobs' option.

Agreeing to give Curly your weapon is supposed to be an inconvenience.
But I mean, you DO get it back.
In fact, you get it back in Primary, which is two maps after Internal Defence (The current end point.).
Just in my personal opinion, not worth it.

If you mean the Chainlaser and the Enviro-Field, they're in the Airlock.
In fact...
I'm going to tweak the script in that area a little.
Make the items more obvious.
(Shoot the destroyable block. ;])

 

in the original cave story, you either know what you're trading it for or it's very obvious that you're taking the easy route. also, giving your main gun to a girl for an indefinite time.. you'd usually expect something good back. not something that isn't even worth it as dragonboots said it is..

curly doesn't even really hint at the thought that she might be holding onto it for a long time. maybe something like "can i borrow that gun for a while?" would be better.
the airlock case is even worse at the moment, but you seem to be fixing that. i don't know what you're planning, but perhaps an empty weapon rack and some damaged environment suit would be a nice hint at what's in the two compartments.

geh. can't really do better until i know if this gets close.. i don't really like it that much though, it's not nearly as good as the droll or red demon it'd replace.. the bright colours are simply to show the different parts. i.. really can't get it to look like, well, not-a-toy without putting in some serious effort that would be wasted if i have anything left to alter. the walker-robot design makes it look like a plaything anyway. it'll be hard to make a serious enemy thing out of this. so.. if you have any suggestions about the shape of the legs or whatever, feel free to tell me all about it. anything's better than making this monstrosity come to life, i'm not frankenstein

 

.. no. i didn't know. but i did suspect something. and neither of those choices had as harsh a punishment as this situation, where you could end up with nothing but 8 shots to kill whatever's in your way..

anyway, about the sprite. how is it?

The sprite is alright, Dekker.
A little toy-ish, but damn close.
Maybe more pastel/browns.
Iunno.

As for the obviousness, I've made a few changes.
Namely the block is auto-destroyed and the chest falls so you KNOW it's there.
And as for the worth-while-ness of giving Curly your gun...
I'll leave that up to you.
You get it back in Primary.
And, in this update, back-tracking is a good thing.
To an extent.

EDIT: I hope SOMEONE gets the Giant Enemy Crab reference.

Anyways, DragonBoots has some sad news...
My step-dad passed away this morning.
He was the closest thing I've ever had to a real father, and to be very honest, I really miss him.
He...
Was a great man...
He taught me much.
And I just hope my mother will be alright.

I'm probably not going to work on my mod for a while...
I need some time.
