• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Thank you kindly.

=^-^=
You get a character named after you~
Or not.
Depends on whether I need filler story or not...
And whether I have time to make a sprite for you.

The intro so far looks ok (was it Misery who created those lightnings?), but I can't say anything about the mod..'Cause you know, can't judge a mod from it's cover ;)

Thank you.
And yes and no - first 8 were Misery (And look to your left. Good. And look to your right. Great. Aaand... Explode?!), last 1 (actually 3 stacked) was
Ballos. (If you recall the hell route dialogue - Misery had Ballos create the crown...)

(I sometimes wonder if the spoiler tags are relevent in a forum where nearly everyone has beaten hell... I did it in 2' 47"... Then my laptop got a nasty virus (*Glares at friends who steal it and use it to look up porn, then changes log-in password*) so and I had to wipe and re-install windows.

I have a habit of losing everything all at once... -_-
Enough whining on my part...

So, as for the mod, I've got 1 map re-done.
It's called Drop Site A
I'm working out whether I want a boss fight in what was First Cave...
Which is now be refered to as "Topside"...
A boss fight means work...
Which means stupid questions...
Which means no sleep.

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
I'm at approx. 320 hours sans sleep.

I have a problem with my mod being ruined. Basicly, my "hero" character is totally unwilling and just wants to go home, so I literally force them into doing anything. Explaining how I am doing so takes a lot of dialog and very little action takes place. (I've broken it up slightly by allowing the player to take the walking actions of the character, though this is not directly explained, which may potentially even make it slightly confusing.)

Then after making a few basic gameplay choices at the end of this really long sequence, suddenly the game becomes almost entirely action-oriented, with little or no dialog whatsoever until the very end.

I was hoping to make more of a Ballos-style series of single lines of a story as you fight your way along, but it became almost entirely explained beforehand... I've been reading too much into how the characters would truely act, as they are based on real people, and real people aren't exactly violent by nature.

This mod is a test of the Agora's Legends engine compatability and capabilities, so it probably won't be seen any time soon, as it contains many custom enemies and bosses which I wouldn't be able to make in vanilla Cave Story. I have been working near constantly.

Now we know what makes a mod go bad, can I have suggestions for how to make a long dialog-filled intro better? How I should break it up if it's not a monologue? I'd rather not post any more details yet, lest I cause horrible drama and controversy early.

Try making the dialogue more interesting? Or if its supposed to be extremely dull, make up for it with more interesting dialogue soon after the Intro.

What about a loooooooooooooooooooooooong winded dialogue in the very beggining, that uses lots of words but doesn't say much...?

But seriously, maybe...
Just sprinkle the dialogue around...?
Blurb before a boss fight, a blurb after...?
You enter a room and start hearing an argument...?
Or perhaps have no dialogue and just post signs everywhere...?

"Every Death Trap deserves the same sign as the one in Santa's house. Why? Cause they get jealous."

Uh, DragonBoots, change your Location, please. It is stretching the Cave Story forum skin.

Sorry...
Just that 89.7% of the time I get asked where Cloudhome is and I get tired of explaining it over and over...

Forgive me?

Good idea.
Can I pretend it was mine?

That's my attitude towards everything.

"Guy: I stole your Sprite.
Me: And?
Guy: Aren't you pissed?
Me: I still have it, don't I? You copied me, not stole from me.
Guy: *Flips out*
Me: ..."

I half-ass everything.
Saves trouble, and anything I have of any value is tangible, which I can protect.
Stolen sprites or stolen test awnsers, no big.
Just proves to me I have more creativity than *some* people.

Yehp.
I find that obsessing over the ownership of such things is really futile.
I say:
  • Ask before taking
  • Give credit where credit is due
  • If it's DragonBoots, disregard the above 2

Have you seen my mod demo?
(Okay, it's just a title screen right now... But more is under way!)

Both Kimiro and I thank you kindly... He's doing the coding, I just write...

...

Sometimes it's a good thing having a split-personality.

I'm not sure where he came from, but he has some good ideas and makes me ambidextrous.
Go figure.
