Because a lotta fictions like HP and FMA take place on our Earth, and noone thinks it's ridiculous.
But most fantasy worlds take place on pseudo-earths. Don't deny it, I read a helluva lot of fantasy novels and play a lot of RPGs. I know the pattern when I see it. When you create a fantasy world you want the freedom to create your own world not build upon what is already there, it is like the difference between making a new game and making a mod (to quote the previous thread of discussion).

Also in the "CS Earth Future" or "CS Alternate Earth" how do you account for the change in physics. You could see the speed everyone fell at (slow compared to our world), how Booster survived / almost survived that fall, no human on our world could have ever hoped to have survived that fall. A dragon that big cannot fly without a wingspan twice its length and a diet in our world. Can you imagine being hit by several computer boxes falling from the sky? That dragon didn't seem to mind though when it was hit by a falling robot, it should have been knocked out of the sky!

1. True, but the examples I mentioned means it isn't a ridiculous idea as you say it.

2. We've been through this twice, and you pick the same thing over and over again. I'm not answering to that this time >.>

You sure? With weird names like Amestris and Xing and whatever? I know the countries resemble(correct spelling or term if wrong) countries of ours... and there's the same elements like Oxygen and Carbon, and the same elements make up the humans as in ours, but that doesn't show that it is our beloved, corrupted Earth. (although the government of Amestris itself is corrupted)

According to the anime, the Earth we live on is the other side of the Gate to the Alchemy world.

And that really makes sense because the question is whether CS will fit into the scenario of the Earth exactly as the Earth is, or will some facts have to be changed in order to fit CS in. As far as we know, there is no real evidence to go against the existence of such a phenomenon as the Gate.

Also, stuff like 'Munich' and 'Albert Einstein' are mentioned to exist on the other side :p

Tehehe~ anime desuka? Guess I need to try harder to like animated versions of mangas that I frequently read with less prejudice that they'll be an appalment(now this needs rephrasing for sure :p). They already aired FMA here but it's Malay dubbed and it's............. sad. I feel like crying and I know you'll too if you could hear it.

I just quoted the most recent.
I shall call the word for this "lazy", either that or I shall rename the word to "xeshi" for the sake of it. I suffer from xeshiness.

OK a few reasons why I don't think CS is based on Earth.

1) Jellyfish can't float in the sky (Grasstown)
2) Fireballs can't bounce (Fireball)
3) Nothing can go through nothing on Earth (Snake)
4) Missiles explode on contact with surface, but the surface the missile explodes on is unscathed
5) Critters...? Balrog... MISERY? MAGIC? DOCTOR? CRYSTAL? WHUT? HUH???
6) At the ending, the picture clearly shows the island falling down to EARTH, which means that it ISN'T ON EARTH cause EARTH itself falling back to EARTH defys Roonil's messed up fking logic lmao. (Without the words Roonil's messed up fkin)

Reasons why I do think its Earth:

1) Clouds.
2) Water. According to what scientists know right now, no other planet has water.
3) Grass. No other planet has enough oxygen to support life. Of course, unless those Mimigas etclmfaostuffdunwannasay breathe on another kind of unknown gas.
4) Wind currents. xD

Anyone remember the pseudo-earth concept that has been used for fantasy worlds for a long time now?

That is hardly evidence to say it is Earth.

The Fireball doesn't shoot fire, you can tell it is some sort of energy weapon easily by looking at the projectiles. I am assuming that it was called fireball based on appearances, not functionality.

Pixing holes are different from saying it's ridiculous. You're pixing the holes, I'm covering em up. Find one where I can't cover it

I consider the Alchemy world as the whole thing involved, with both sides of the Gate in the subset. I dunno what it really is, but when I made that statement, it was with this assumption, but I've also allowed for a different definition there, hopefully leaving no hole uncovered.

There is hardly evidence to say that it isn't. The only really solid evidence would be something actually mentoned in the game, but seeing as you think that's ridiculous too, I guess we shouldn't get too optimistic over achieving a mutually accepted conclusion on that front.

You have failed to cover up the last one.

Also how could magic have evaded detection for so long, there would be enough fanatics in the world to try, and give me a solution to the Rabbit to Mimiga evolution issue, preferably one that doesn't cause cancer.

A conclusion? Like that will ever happen. :D

REALITY IS A LIE!

...
I still maintain that CS takes place on one of the 12 Colonies from Battlestar Galactica.

I haven't failed to, but prolly you missed the point.

How might Magic have evaded detection for so long? What if magic was restriced to the island? Also, even if it were on the surface, we've seen in fiction how an author can claim the supernatural is happy to remain in hiding until the situation calls for revelation.

Simple explanation: Alternate Reality. It's enough like earth in Cave story for us to rule out the absurdly improbable theory that there is another planet with water, green grass, and humanoid lifeforms that look exactly like us. But the bizarre twists in physics and the uncanny ability to perform magic show that it really can't be anywhere in out plain or reality because frankly, stuff like that doesn't happen. But, if you think about it being a parallel universe, it would make perfect sense: same general time and place, just altered physics and slightly changed chronology of the planet that somehow leads to a floating island full of aliens to "land" somewhere on the planet's surface. It's just like Final Fantasy, only with better protagonists and guns that don't suck.

Alternate Realities cannot change physics, no matter what Sliders tells you it is not possible. But if you take Earth, hell our entire universe, out of the equation you can create anything with any physics, history, etc. you want while borrowing elements from earth for the world your story is based in.

Oh and welcome back Atravir. :D
