Proposed migration to xenForo

Remember how we lost the ability to show 40 posts per page when we last migrated? I think he's talking about that.

 

No user configurable ppp option by the looks, mostly because the page number is in the url. Imagine what would happen if someone linked to a page while having a different ppp from everyone else. There is an admin configurable option, but that applies to everyone, so 20 ppp (the default by the looks) should be a reasonable compromise.

I can't see a PM mailbox limit in XF, so I suppose that after the move your issue can be marked as resolved without me really needing to do anything.

I'm currently writing a script to rewrite the old VB links in posts into IPB links before the move is done.

After the move I will start work on a script to rewrite the IPB links in posts to XF links. However as a result there will be a period of about a week or two where pre-XF links in posts mightn't work.

To clarify I mean internal links. Links to stuff like posts or threads.

There is an add on that can do this, but I either have to pay money for it or live with the link that the free version inserts into the footer.

Personally the paid version isn't something I would waste money on. But if the footer link isn't going to annoy anyone then there is no reason why I can't adopt the free version.

I'm immediately getting the impression of modern overdesigned-yet-underfunctional message board software. I guess it feels more like the designers have a better basic idea of what a forum requires than IP Board did back when we first moved, at least. May as well get the complaints started

-Friends list appears to have turned into some botched follower/following deal, including pending friends
-There are like three different reward systems and three ways to follow/watch/track everything jesus christ
-No more post previews anywhere on user pages
-The only way to view members is in a single huge list; there doesn't seem to be any way to order them outside of the "Notable Members" option which barely shows anything
-Said list also appears to indicate that nobody has any albums, even though they can now be found in the new mess that is the Media section
-As I have presently discovered, users can no longer view the previous posts in a thread when using the full post window

Oh god I haven't even looked at the AdminCP yet Nothing looks broken as such, so that's a positive. Really I'm sure most of these things can be fiddled with or disabled. Thanks for all the work andy, both handling the move and allowing the site to continue existing in general. I'll check things out more in the morning.

Alerts appear to be unreadable in the Cave Story Dark theme too.

 

Ok so one thing I noticed is that if you hover over your name at the top right of a page:

The text is near unreadable, and also all the letters but the first 2 are blocked? (like GI[_________])

Also, 60-ish of my pms have been marked as unread, and it's kind of a pain to go through them all and mark them as read. I can "select all" and then "mark as read", but that only works for the current page of messages, and I have 8 pages or so.

Also...

I prefer how the spoiler buttons worked on the old forums, that is, when they weren't inside a grey/differently colored box when expanded.

And it looks like the post auto-merger isn't working right now, going to merge these posts.

 

I don't know if anyone else had the same problem, but when I tried logging in, the password I used before the migration wouldn't work, so I had to go get my password reset so I can log in.

We can't use images in status updates anymore. How can we possibly meme at maximum capacity if we can't use images in status updates?

 

My password worked, so maybe it's something that really really old users aren't affected by.
