Physical release?

I don't really know how we are going to decide the track ordering. I guess we could start with the order they appear in the game (Side A starts with "Gestation", Side B ends with "The Way Back Home", I'd imagine that's how we'd all want it), and then if we want we could adjust specific things, like putting "Running Hell" before "Last Battle", spacing out the quieter and louder tracks so that it's not clumped, ETC.

Well I still need to group individual sides by what fits best, so perfect chronological order across the whole thing is not very likely. I also think I heard somewhere that it is better to not have loud tracks towards the end of the vinyl, though I could be wrong on that point. In any case ordering will be something we will discuss in full after the final track is decided upon.

I thought it was the opposite, that sound quality is better on the edges and as you go in it's best to have more uniform tracks.

That's what I was saying. I meant "towards the end" in terms of direction of playback (towards the centre).

 

For the last remaining track, put me down for Balrog's Theme. The other themes are good, but way too serene for individual listening.

If an order is required, I suppose it would go something like this.

These tracks are unordered. The groupings are mostly done on the basis of "whatever fits", so they aren't easy to change with only 2-3 seconds of leeway in either group. As such the easiest option is for us to collectively decide upon an track order within those two separate groups/sides. We also need to figure out which group is Side A, and which is Side B.

This is going to be a weird one to assess, as it's not just numerical votes, and our answers are very easy to be completely different. Probably easiest to look at things one at a time, first choose sides A and B, then see what's the most common starting and ending tracks, etc..

Personally (and I would hope for everyone here for simplicity) I don't really at all care for the order of the middle tracks. With that in mind here's my order:

EDIT: Oh, quick question, excuse me if I wasn't paying attention, but what were the plans for how the tracks will be played? I know we're doing double on the looped parts except for the theme, but basically were you planning on fading out the tracks or having full stops? I don't really care which, though it would probably be nice to fade out the two side-ending tracks.

 

Everything apart from the theme song will be faded after the second loop (the theme song will fade after the first loop).

As for track order, it isn't something that really needs to be voted upon, but merely discussed. We can just use what you've posted as a base and see if anyone has any changes they want to make to that format.

 

Any objections to zxin's ammendment?

 

I personally don't think we should have the mellowish tracks ("Pulse" "Balcony" "Hero's End") all right next to each other, but that's a nitpick. I would propose maybe moving Meltdown 2 or Cave Story to split those 3 up, but I feel like I'm having too much say in this already.

I request we put White after The Way Back Home.

Sorry, but I'll probably leave it as is. Unless EnlightenedOne corrects me on this I am pretty sure that both of us are of like mind that The Way Back Home should come last. Plus you really should have brought this up 6 days ago.
