No-rocket launcher run

Hey guys, I've been doing a no-rocket launcher run in the game. I'm stuck at the Two Sisters boss, where I have to open the chest in order to activate the boss battle. The problem is, the chest causes me to receive the rocket launcher. Is there a way to get around this?

 

Option A: Just go on honor. Sure you might have rockets, but you don't have to use them!
Option B: Use Sue's Workshop or the recently updated Cave Editor to remove the offending chest, or alter it's TSC script.
Option C: Pay someone to do option B for you (don't look at me!)

You don't need to fight the sisters in there. Instead of opening the chests just leave the room like you would after the boss fight.

Exactly! The boss fight is optional. Otherwise, 3hp minimal runs would be impossible!

 

I have a habit of preserving ammo to the point where I barely use the rocket launcher, even during boss fights.

Duh. I thought this fellow was wanting the challenge of fighting The Sisters, it is a totally optional boss fight.

otherwise, don't take the chest and just leave as usual

Ah damn, I can't get back inside the last cave! I forgot to get the Whimsical Star and intended to go backwards through the last cave to get it. What a shame. That weapon was the coolest thing in the game. I even named my blog after it.

Nope

That's not the point of a minimal items run.

The point is to pick up only the items the game requires you to get (excluding the items necessary for hell, if you want to go to hell).

So minimal items runners don't pick up the snake.

Well, that's good to know, because when I hit the labyrinth I copied my save file and pasted it elsewhere for safekeeping before I got the snake. Now I can just go back and put my save in with my Cave Story game.

Is there a thread with "rules" or standards for a minimal items run?

You have to get the Fireball? Can't you just not talk to Santa?

I mean, I know you have to go into his house, but don't you only get the Fireball if you talk to him?

After you get Santa's key, if you try and skip getting the fireball and somehow miraculously 'invici-jump' over Chaco's house -- she won't tell you about the fireplace passage unless you talk to Santa FIRST -- you'll have to go back to that area to get the charcoal and jellyfish juice.

Unfortunately, after fighting Balrog and talking to Malco, Santa will, instead of giving you the fireball, say " You're looking for charcoal. You can have what's in my fireplace." You can't GET the charcoal because you need jellyfish juice, but the jellies don't appear unless Chaco tells you about the jellies and her fireplace passage. However, she won't tell you unless you get the fireball, which at this point you can't, Santa being generous with the CHARCOAL now, and since you saved after the Balrog fight and therefore have to restart your game over again. Vicious cycle.
