You know, but other kids may not. Heck, most laptops made these days don't even have CD drives anymore! The floppy was barely used when I was a child (I'm 17), so I doubt you had seen it in action for real.

Actually, I grew up with a word processor/typewriter like thingy. It basically had the capabilities of Microsoft Office (Less really).

Anyway, it stored data on Floppy Discs, so I knew them pretty well. (When I was 6 or so, I was introduced to the internet, computers with hard drives, and CD drives.)

But yeah, I realize that that isn't typical.

Keep in mind my roommates (younger than me) are 19, and they probably couldn't tell you how to plug in a mouse let alone what a floppy is for.

Now if you can tell me what ZIP is without hitting up google, that'd be impressive :greydroll:

Or not, since deprecated/discontinued pc parts aren't that much fun to talk about, especially when they send a thread spiraling off topic. Sorry yall!

ZIP drives were the precursor to floppy drives, correct?
We used to have a ZIP drive reader. They look pretty similar

Nah, they were the successor. Floppys were out of favor so they never gained steam over CD ROM.

You might be thinking 5" floppies. Those went out in the early 1990s.

Heh. Got out my box of old floppies because of this off-topic series of posts. That sure brings back memories.

Why, it's a type of file compression format!

Actually, it was (still is I guess) a precursor to the floppy disk.

Unless you were saying that sarcastically. If so, then great for you.

Fear not fret not, for your newfound knowledge will probably lead you nowhere and give you no advantage in any conceivable situation :)

The standard 3 1/4 inch floppy stored 1.44mb of data. Zip drives stored anywhere between 100mb and 750mb. The zip drive was a successor that never really became a standard. If anything the precursor to floppies was tapes.

I actually have an external usb floppy drive for nostalgia's sake. Oh, and for reading old dos game floppies. :)

Pfft, the precursor to the floppy was an even BIGGER floppy!

Since CS scaling is not exact, you could actually be walking up to this behemoth to save. It is as big as our protagonist after all.

I know. I have one of those at home. I meant that tapes were the precursor to floppy disks in general.

I'm guessing that is also where the 'floppy' part of the name comes from because the traditional ones are mostly rigid

Isn't because inside the case there's a really floppy (I think magnetic) disk?

New Trailer!

Today, a new trailer/commercial-like-thing was added here, flush with a great Mischievous Robot mix that I really hope that they use in game. The video also says that they'll have a classic mode. Basically old sprites, new backgrounds. Oh, there's an article along with it. Something about the game not having lag.
