I've switched the current question for the platform-related one but with a more realistic list of answers.

Now I don't mind at this point whether or not the questions are cave story related, but I would really like some questions that do not require getting past the first room in Cave Story to know the answer.

I have an orange cat. What colour is my cat? [orange]
The secret password is the first month of the year, but with all letters 'a' replaced with 'z'. Please write the secret password. [jznuzry]
Which is closest to the size of a cat: an ant, a beaver, or an elephant? [a beaver / beaver]

The "take a word, replace some letters" seems like it'd work well to me, since it wouldn't be weak to dictionary attacks or google searches and you can make a lot of variations on it. Also the exact answer doesn't have to be in the question.

Considering the spambot who posted four times in the Christmas thread… A change would be nice.

Just updated the forums. Hopefully that will fix the spam issue to some degree. Nevertheless some new questions would quite welcome.

What does the man in the safe room mention eating if necessary? [cockroaches]

If you have three apples and give away two, how many bites did you take? [zero/none](This one's a bit iffy.)

Name the last month of the year, with every letter E replaced by a period.[D.c.mb.r](This was originally "replace all letters with periods", but that's stupid.)

What happens if you touch the white thing at the bottom of Egg Corridor? [you die/death]

How much ammo does your first gun contain? [unlimited/infinite]

Where was Arthur's Key? [Graveyard]

There are three cats in your room: a calm one, a big eater, and a playful one. Which one most likely stole your fish? [big eater]

What is the name of the pool in Mimiga Village? [reservoir]

What were the enemies in the Graveyard? [mushrooms]

I might think of more later.

Who appears if you beat Ironhead with no damage taken? [Ikachan]
Tow rope or Booster 0.8? [Booster 0.8 if you're 12, tow rope if you're older]
If your cat rubs your leg and lays down to expose his belly, would you rub it? [No (unless your cat won't bite)]
T/F King gives you the Master Sword. [False]
What is the Doctor's name? [Date Fuyuhiko]

I think a couple of these are a bit redundant.

Replace every consonant of the second to last month of the year (November) with the next available vowel. If you reach the end of the alphabet, start from the beginning. (Ooaeoeeu)

Heh heh. That worked out a lot better in my head.

True or false: an insect is an animal.

I can't think of any Cave Story ones at the moment.

What makes a CAPTCHA of this nature secure? It seems like spam software isn't advanced enough these days to logically find the answer based on reading the questions, but they're getting through. Might it work like a password, where the shorter and less varied in characters the string it's looking for is, the sooner a spambot can get a registration to work? If so, then perhaps it would be most effective to say something like "Type the alphabet in lower case letters" [abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz]. According to howsecureismypassword.net, such an answer would take 48 quintillion years to crack. And if the spambot is programmed to recognize such keywords as "type" and "alphabet," then it could instead say: "Tpye the ahalbpet in lweor csae ltretes"

Would that be effective? Or am I going about this the wrong way?

Generally when the questions get broken it's the result of human solvers / script kiddies finding the answers and programming them into the bots which is why once you get them you get a lot. Sometimes they dictionary crack them which is why dictionary words are usually solvable by bots on their own so we get a few random ones drifting through the filter even when it isn't broken.

also andwhy it broke the miraigamer theme :<

The Miraigamer theme is now fixed, it was pretty much the result of me mistyping the path to the css file. I fixed the missing postcount while I was there too. Hayden can stop putting his postcount into his location bar now. Oh and new warnings should now show the post of origin.

But as far as question suggestions go it would make sense if they didn't require any Cave Story knowledge, because I'm sure that people occasionally register into these forums because they are stuck or have a question to ask before they finish the game. You can still have a Cave Story theme to the question if you wish. But remember, this isn't a quiz, it's a registration test.

Shouldn't it also test the age of maturity, to some extent? Sort of like a skill testing question given in a contest?

(And how come Noxid got a "cat" count when the theme was broken?)

Should we take complaints about the update here or "Switch to IPBoard"? I was just wondering if the online status next to someone's username in their post is permanently gone or not.

That was discussed some time ago, but it was agreed that it would hinder some legitimate registrations.

The same reason my post count was working when nobody else's was.
