The way i see it is thats really weird and barly has anything to do with cavestory

With the machine gun make a rebounding ghost image of the shot when it hits something, this will not be the shot rebounding but what I said a ghost image of the shot heading in the opposite direction, the moment each normal shot makes contact with something it will create these ghost images for each shot, the original will still move in the same direction. The ghost images will be true to their name and pass through or move around you, they just look cool and may add to keeping you in the air.
