Re: Misery Story
Alright, finished! At least I think I'm as far as I can go.
*Cracks critique knuckles like a boss. Lemme say I'm sorry now if I come off as harsh*
Hmm.... there are some continuity issues here, namely by alluding to the original mimiga cast of Cave Story. Misery was the one who created the Demon Crown; while we don't have any specific timeframe of exactly how long ago she made it, we can assume it was QUITE awhile ago. Ten years (between the Doctor and the previous ruler) plus a lot of buffer time for the first two wielders of the crown. Mimigas simply don't live that long; if they did, the mimigas of Cave Story would remember the previous owner/s of the crown and the real effects of eating the red flowers (opposed to the myth of "your blood boils and you die on the spot heard on Yamashita farm"). And, in turn, Jenka and Misery would remember them as a whole quite well.
On a technical note, I think you forgot to change a faceset when Misery tells Jenka the mimigas are named mimigas. It goes to "Hm. Interesting..." which sounds like it should be spoken by Jenka, but stays on Misery's face.
Possibly change the sound effect of the plasma bolt? Hearing the blade's "wupwupwup" sound effect doesn't seem fitting for that sort of magic.
Maybe it's just me and I'm getting kind of nitpicky, but Jenka seems a teeny bit colder than she did in Cave Story. I think it's her saying 'research the rabbit creatures' several times, it gives her a more left-brained analytical attitude than I'm used to. I found it a little daunting. If you could, I'd throw in a little more warmth in her dialogue, show that she cares about her daughter and gives proper encouragement, while still recognizing her (Misery's) current limits. Build up that strong bond so you can crush it later once Misery takes advantage of her uncle's energy to make a magic hat.
Anyhow, hope this helps. Keep at it, I got your back!
Edit: Shouldn't this be moved out to the showcase since it has a demo now?
